The subcompact electric five-door with a revived name and retro design is scheduled to premiere next year.
The French manufacturer showed a prototype of the new Renault 5 in 2021: when developing its design, the creators were inspired by the historical predecessor of the same name, which was produced between 1972 and 1996. Recall that the «five» has become one of the most popular cars in France. It is known that the new Renault 5 will appear on the European market in 2024: it will replace the Renault Zoe battery hatchback, which it was decided to retire.

Previously, the company sent Renault 5 test mules for road testing: they were packed in a Clio body. Now the prototype of the future novelty is already riding on tests, so far carefully disguised. Colleagues from the Spanish edition of Motor.es shared with us the pictures that photo spies took on public roads in southern Europe. .jpg» />As you can see in the photo, the body of the Renault 5 prototype is almost completely covered with a camouflage film. Judging by the pictures, the body of the production version will be approximately the same as that of the show car shown in 2021: a five-door hatchback with a small spoiler on the top of the tailgate. Unlike the concept, the test prototype has traditional side mirrors, conventional front door handles and a shark fin antenna on the roof. jpg» />So far, the optics are also almost completely hidden behind disguise. It is possible that the new hatchback, which received a design with retro elements, will have horizontal headlights of a simple form and taillights arranged vertically. At the show car, they were united by a strip across the entire width of the fifth door, and on the side there was a decorative element with a model index; it is possible that the production version of the electrohatch will have a similar design.As it became known earlier, Renault 5 will be the first-born on the new modular CMF-B EV platform. The hatchback will be equipped with a single electric motor located in front. It will be combined into one module with a gearbox, inverter and charger; the power range in the company has not yet been declassified. The traction battery is built into the floor of the body, its capacity is also kept secret. According to preliminary data, the power reserve of the “five” will be about 400 km (when calculated according to the WLTP cycle). />
The new Renault 5 has a McPherson-type suspension in front, and an independent multi-link in the back. As Kolesa.ru noted earlier, such a rear suspension was made with an eye on the «charged» version of the hatchback under the Alpine brand: its premiere is also scheduled for next year. This hot hatch will compete for buyers with the Abarth 500e, which was introduced last November.

Renault 5 prices will be announced later. As previously reported, the novelty will be about 30% cheaper to manufacture compared to the Renault Zoe. As a result, the retail price of the electric car is likely to be affordable for Europeans: it is expected that dealers will ask for about 20 thousand euros for the basic version.
