Tom Cruise has said he hopes to continue acting in Mission: Impossible films until the age of 80, equaling Harrison Ford as an action hero.

Cruise has been known to perform his own stunts in the franchise, and the last installment shows what is billed as the most dangerous he has ever tried.

The actor rides his motorcycle off a cliff and then jumps hundreds of feet to the ground. This trick took a year of training.

At 61, Tom Cruise can be forgiven for backing off, but he said it was at the Australian premiere, and he hoped that at 80, he would «still live» like Ford, who recently completed his latest Indiana movie. Jones.

“Harrison Ford is a legend. I have 20 years to catch up with him. I hope to continue acting in Mission: Impossible films until I reach his age,” said Cruz.

The rock trick was filmed in Norway, and, according to the actor, he dreamed about it since childhood.

His training included over 500 parachute jumps and over 13,000 motocross jumps before the scene was filmed in Norway.

“The biggest stunt in film history”

Stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood called it “ in fact the most epic stunt in the history of cinema,» and Cruise performed it six times to get perfect shots.

The film's other decorative stunt takes place on a 60 mph train as Cruise fights the villain, played by Esai Morales.

“I did the action scenes, but doing them on a moving train was a challenge. fire. That's how Tom likes to do things,» Morales said.

The production team built the train, and director Christopher McQuarrie said, «There was no surplus of trains to destroy, so we had to build a train if we we want to destroy it.

«No one in the world does practical filmmaking on this level, and perhaps it will never happen again.»

Explaining why he does his own stunts, Cruz said, “I want to give it my all. To get that experience, to see him communicate with the audience when it's real. This is different. There are stakes, there are real stakes.»

The actor joked that he didn't wear a bike stunt helmet because «it just doesn't look cool.»

Another stunt, in which Cruise and co-star Hayley Atwell appear to be driving up the Spanish Steps in Rome, was filmed elsewhere and the background was digitally added. The film contains a disclaimer stating that «In no way, form or form, shall any vehicle descend the Spanish Steps.»

The authorities in Rome are keen to emphasize, that this attraction is not accessible to cars after last year, a Saudi citizen descended the stairs in a rented Maserati.

He was charged with damaging cultural property, but claimed he was misdirected by the car's sat-nav.< /p>Top 10 Mission: Impossible Movie Clips Pack

Mission: Impossible returns to theaters on Monday, July 10 with the seventh installment, Mission: Impossible: Paying for Death, Part One. At this stage, the most impossible thing about the show is how Tom Cruise and his company keep coming up with bigger, better, more exciting stunts and sets. But which one is the most nervous?

‌1. Train Cliffhanger — Mission: Impossible — Death Wages Part One (2023)

It takes a lot to beat the stunts and sets from the last six Mission: Impossible films, but Death Wage Part One does it with an absolute cliffhanger—literally. It all starts with Cruise's Ethan Hunt jumping off a cliff on a motorcycle and doing BASE jumping (Cruise's preparation for the highly publicized stunt included 500 parachute jumps and 13,000 motocross jumps). After an epic battle with the villain Esai Morales on top of the Orient Express, Hunt finds himself on a runaway train and races towards a blown up (i.e. no longer existing) bridge. Then «Dead Reckoning» serves as the show's most inventive setting as Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell clamber up the train cars, but vertically as the train falls off a cliff one car at a time. The stunt was originally planned to be filmed in Poland in 2020 on the dilapidated Pilchovitsky Bridge. But after an international outcry over Tom Cruise's alleged plan to blow up a «national monument,» the scene ended in the Yorkshire Dales, where a 70-ton replica of the vintage steam locomotive crashed into the Darlton Quarry in Derbyshire. “We purposely built this train to be destroyed,” explained filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie.

2. CIA Hacking — Mission Impossible (1996)

Twenty-seven years later, the sight of Tom Cruise hanging from a wire is still a defining image of the show. The plot of the sequence is based on the 1960s television series Mission Impossible. Possibly the movie's most impossible mission, Ethan Hunt has to steal a top-secret list from CIA headquarters — from a vault so alarmed that Hunt can't let a drop of sweat touch the floor. It hangs from a ventilation shaft in the ceiling and hacks into a computer suspended in the air. Cruz was held — and lowered — by a pulley system, and spent a significant amount of time hanging upside down. His genius is the virtuoso suspense of director Brian De Palma.

3. Helicopter Duel — Mission: Impossible — Fallout (2018)

In the final installment of M:I 6 — still the best of the sequels — Cruise's character makes one of his many «I'll figure it out when I get there» attempts to save the day. In a heartbreaking sequence, he climbs into a helicopter mid-flight — climbing a rope and payload hanging underneath the helicopter — then shoots the pilot and takes the controls before chasing and crashing into a second helicopter, then defeating Superman (well, Henry Cavill ) to death at the top of the mountain. Cruz really learned how to pilot a helicopter for this episode — he spent many hours to reach the required level of helicopter skills.

4 Climbing the Burj Khalifa — Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol (2011)

Yes, Cruz's free solo ascent at the start of Mission: Impossible 2 was impressive — he climbed 2,000 feet (albeit in real life with a harness, as if that makes it easier to digest). But he went even further (well, about 700 feet) in the fourth film, in which he climbed around the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world. The film, which was something of a reboot of the series, generated fanfare after a photo of Cruise sitting atop a skyscraper was circulated between scenes. But that's bullshit compared to what he did in the movie itself — the sequence of him climbing (using some sort of technical glove), swinging, and actually running across the building horizontally. It was actually held by tethers, which were then removed in post-production. This was a game changer for M:I, which increasingly sold the escalating thrill of Cruise's stunts.

5. Airplane Takeoff — Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation (2015)

You can almost hear the turbines whirring in Cruise's head, «How can I top the last movie?» How about clinging to the side of an airplane as it takes off? The kind of stuff that Cruz absolutely revels in, oddly enough. As for the pretitles, they are enough to fit most Bond films. To create the sequence, Cruise dangled from an Airbus A400M Atlas (although, thankfully, he was strapped in). Cruz insisted on filming multiple takes to make sure they got the footage he wanted. He did it eight times in total.

6. Jump Halo — Mission: Impossible — Fallout (2018)

Not content with clinging to the plane during takeoff, Cruz was forced to jump out of it in the next film. On a mission that included dropping into the Grand Palais in Paris (literally), Cruise Hunt and Henry Cavill's dodgy CIA operative, Walker, perform a HALO (low opening altitude) parachute jump. The scene continues the manly posing between Cruz and Cavill's character as Walker passes out mid-jump — because he was too manly to take apart his oxygen tank — forcing Hunt to change oxygen tanks mid-jump, and before it's too late to reveal his parachute. . It was so unknown that director Christopher McQuarrie decided to shoot it last, putting enormous pressure on the post-production team. It took weeks to shoot — they made 106 jumps in total — all while Cruz treated his broken ankle.

7. Helicopter Train Chase — Mission: Impossible (1996)

The original Mission: Impossible was far less gimmicky and more of a complex game of deceit and shenanigans. However, its convoluted plot leads to a couple of gripping sets, especially a grand high-speed finale: a brawl with Jon Voight on a train as he races through the Channel Tunnel while a helicopter piloted by Jean Reno gives chase. The episode used some visual effects stunts and sound stages, although Cruz did cling to the train cars when he collided with a 320 km/h windmill. It's an exciting, tiring hour — a sequence that almost makes you duck, as if you're the one about to be hit by a signal light.

8. Underwater Heist — Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation (2015)

Taking a break from conquering new heights, Cruz's ruthless hero travels underground — and underwater — to steal some secret materials. From the looks of it, the underwater stunt was something Cruise had long been into. Swimming through a secret underwater facility, Hunt has only three minutes of oxygen. In fact, Cruz trained with an underwater stunt specialist and learned how to hold his breath. You can see Cruise holding his breath for six minutes in the remake. The beauty of this scene, filmed in one continuous take, is that it's so tense that you'll be breathless with Tom.

9. Motorcycle Skiing — Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)

In the second and third M:I movies, there is little to match the high-octane super stunts of the later movies. But the climactic motorcycle chase from director John Woo's Mission: Impossible 2 certainly deserves praise. It's pure Wu, with lots of slow motion, leather coats blowing in the wind, and guns blazing. At one point, Cruz kicks off his motorcycle while continuing to ride and skis down the road. Cruz performed the stunt himself while the motorcycle was pulled by a tow truck. The chase turns into a knife fight with villain Dougray Scott, who is only millimeters away from gouging Cruiser's eye out. It may be a small trick, but it will likely generate as much excitement as any skyscraper jump.

10. Exploding Aquarium — Mission: Impossible (1996)

The idea of an exploding aquarium seems trite compared to Cruise's deadly antics in later films. But it's a key moment from the first movie. In the story, Hunt, who is portrayed as a trickster, must escape from IMF boss Kittridge (who returns in the final film). While sitting in a fancy restaurant, Hunt blows up an aquarium with an exploding gum stick and avoids arrest. Not only is it a great visual, but the sequence was extremely risqué. Literally tons of water, a steel frame and flying glass shards — Cruz's famous jump from the water had to be precisely timed.
