Kamran Huseynov, head of Avito Auto's key account sales group, shared the results of the study and talked about how the dynamics have changed supply and demand for used cars in May 2023 compared to May 2022. The expert also listed used car brands that platform users are willing to purchase from abroad.
Growth in demand and cost
According to Avito Auto, in May 2023, the demand for used cars on the platform increased by 11% compared to the same period last year and reached the level of February 2022. The offer for the specified period remained at the same level. The average cost of used cars increased by 21% and amounted to 1,150,000 rubles. The largest increase in value is observed in the dealer segment – in May 2023, it exceeded 2,000,000 rubles. Private sellers on average offer their car for 800,000 rubles, and professional sellers – for 1,000,000 rubles. At the same time, dealers account for 23% of the total supply, and private sellers occupy the majority of the market – 51%.
A new Chinese car or a used European one: what alternatives are platform users considering
According to the results of the study, Avito Auto users who are ready to purchase a new Chinese car are still considering European and Japanese used cars as an alternative. For example, buyers of a new Haval are equally interested in looking at options like the Toyota RAV4, Kia K5, and pre-owned Mitsubishi Outlander. Buyers of the new Geely are also ready to consider the Toyota Camry, Toyota Land Cruiser and Hyundai Elantra with mileage.

The largest share of parallel import offers in the used car segment comes from dealers (33%), as well as from professional sellers (20%) and private sellers (9%). Another 38% of offers come from dealers in the new car segment.
