Recalcitrant Zelensky visited Snake Island to mark the 500th anniversary of the war

“Today we are on Snake Island, which never will not be conquered by the invaders, like the whole of Ukraine, because we are a country of the brave,” Zelensky said.

“I want to thank from here, from this place of victory, to each of our soldiers during these 500 days.”

Russia was only a few hours away from invading Ukraine when the flagship of its Black Sea Fleet, the Moskva, approached the shores of Zmeiny Island, a rocky outcropping in the Black Sea.

In the audio recording of the meeting, one can hear as Russian sailors say: “This is a Russian warship. I suggest you lay down your arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary casualties.»

The Ukrainian who answered the phone a country border officer can be heard saying to a colleague, “Well, that’s all… should I tell him to go f*ck? Just in case.”

He then replies, “Russian warship, fuck you!”

Troops on the island were presumed dead after the warship opened fire and silenced the radio waves.

However, it was later revealed that eight border guards, 50 soldiers and two laborers had survived and were being held as prisoners of war.

Some were later released in a prisoner exchange in April and others in November.
