Toyota Land Cruiser Prado next generation: new images

This week, the Japanese company released the first teasers of the new SUV that will be the successor to the current Land Cruiser Prado. Using them, we decided to form our own idea of ​​how the novelty will look like.

The Prado frame SUV appeared in the range of the Japanese brand in 1990, becoming a modified version of the Land Cruiser 70 model. The word Prado is of Spanish origin and translates as “glade, meadow, foothill ranch” or “holiday venue”. Today, the fourth generation of an SUV is already on the conveyor, which can be considered a long-liver of the modern automotive market, because its debut took place in 2009. Since then, the model has received two significant restyling, the last of which occurred in 2017. And a few days ago, the first long-awaited teasers of the next generation model appeared, which allow you to see some features of the future novelty.

As expected, Prado will become a relative of the new Lexus GX SUV, which premiered exactly a month ago. It has exactly the same proportions, an angular body shape and a curved window sill line. Most likely, the sidewalls of the two SUVs will be almost the same, and the main differences will be concentrated in front and behind. The teasers already show that the Land Cruiser Prado will receive a vertical front end with a rectangular grille and narrow headlights of a simple shape. Large vertical lights will appear at the back, while the rear fenders will most likely not change. For sure, the Prado will get the original trunk lid, which may lose its branded LED strip.

New Prado will keep the frame structure and move to the GA-F platform, like the Lexus GX. The engine range can also go to Toyota from a premium colleague, which is equipped with a petrol V6 3.5 biturbo with a capacity of 354 hp. (650 Nm) paired with a 10-speed “automatic”. There is also a hybrid modification based on the 2.4 petrol “turbo four”, it is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
