Serial MG Cyberster: “normal” steering wheel, lifting doors and four screens

The British brand MG, owned by the Chinese automaker SAIC, continues to declassify the first sports novelty in many years – the Cyberster electric roadster: interior photos have been published serial version.

In the status of a concept, the MG Cyberster debuted in April 2021 at the Shanghai Motor Show, in May 2022 a closed show of the pre-production version took place in London, and today the serial salon has been declassified. It differs from the pre-production one in some trim details and a traditional round steering wheel instead of a truncated Tesla-style steering wheel, although it is possible that the latter will be offered as an option. The guillotine-style lift-doors remain and are powered by a servo – probably also optional, because in the previous photos the sports car has external door handles, but in the new ones it does not.

It is possible to open the doors equipped with a servo drive from the passenger compartment with large keys in the lower part of the center console, it also houses a soft folding top control key, a vertical block of keys for controlling the power plant modes and a vertical screen with settings for various electric vehicle systems, while there is a “hot” block above the screen climate control keys. The instrument panel of the panoramic type consists of three screens. The paddles control the regenerative braking modes.

The design of the Cyberster was developed in the UK, it shows the generic features of the brand's latest gasoline roadster – MG F/TF (produced from 1995 to 2011). Cyberster overall length – 4535 mm, width – 1913 mm, height – 1329 mm, wheelbase – 2690 mm. The curb weight, depending on the modification, is 1850-1985 kg, the standard wheels are 19- or 20-inch. />

The base Cyberster will have a single electric motor on the rear axle with a power of 231 kW (314 hp), the advanced version will have the output of the electric motor increased to 250 kW (340 hp), and the top all-wheel drive version will receive a twin-engine power plant with a maximum total output of 400 kW (544 hp). The capacity of the battery mounted in the floor, according to CarNewsChina magazine, is 64 or 77 kWh, the range according to the Chinese CLTC cycle is 501-580 km.

Live premiere The MG Cyberster will take place this week as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, sales in China will begin before the end of this year, in Europe in the summer of 2024, when the MG brand will celebrate its centenary. The base version of Cyberster is expected to cost around £55,000.
