The SUV mentioned in the title is just one of the potential future Russian novelties, because we were promised several models from the parent Chinese company at once.
After the beginning of the well-known events, the “celestial” concern Dongfeng, along with JAC and FAW (which provided us with new Muscovites and Ladas, respectively), began to play a significant role in our market. So, in the Lipetsk region, the Motorinvest company assembles electric cars under its own Evolute brand, which are slightly altered Dongfengs. And the same Russian firm imports Dongfeng's premium Voyah brand. At the same time, the passenger model range of Dongfeng itself in Russia is very meager: we have been selling the outdated 580 crossover for a long time and since May they have been accepting orders for the Shine Max sedan. There is also a DF6 pickup, but for some reason it is not on the brand's local website. Anyway, things will change soon.

As part of the industrial exhibition Innoprom-2023 taking place these days in Yekaterinburg, the local representative office of Dongfeng – Dongfeng Motor Rus – and the same Motorinvest announced a new stage of their partnership: the second company was transferred the rights to distribute and promote Dongfeng brand cars, including future models, reported in the press service of the Russian company. That is, Motorinvest has become a distributor of cars from a Chinese manufacturer in the Russian Federation, assuming obligations to distribute, sell, provide technical, after-sales and warranty services, as well as supply components to Russia. At the same time, the companies will jointly expand the Dongfeng dealer network: by the end of this year, they plan to open “up to 60 new service and sales points” in the Russian Federation. At the same time, it is stated that Dongfeng Motor Rus will continue to “carry out management activities of the distribution network.” p>What kind of new Dongfeng models will reach the Russian Federation has not yet been disclosed. There is also not a word about localization in the official release, but later the novelties may well be registered in the Lipetsk region: the plant is designed to produce at least 100,000 cars a year.
Meanwhile, the head office of Dongfeng shared fresh photos and details about its new Haohan crossover, which can be considered one of the main contenders for the Russian debut, and then registration. Recall that in China the SUV will appear under the sub-brand Aeolus (aka Fengshen), it will be the second SUV of the “new wave” – it will join the Haoji model that debuted a year ago (and this is also one of the main contenders for appearance in the Russian Federation).

The SUV is based on the improved DSMA platform (Dongfeng Superior Modular Architecture; the updated version is called DSMA 2.0), it is legally made on the basis of the Stellantis CMP architecture. The length of Dongfeng Aeolus Haohan is 4650 mm, width – 1905 mm, height – 1630 mm, wheelbase – 2775 mm. Models fit 18-, 19-, or 20-inch wheels.

Appearance features – a coupe-like silhouette, narrow head optics, flip-out door handles, taillights in the form of a single die and a forked spoiler. And the SUV will be offered with three front design options: a purely gasoline cross can have a radiator grill with many squares or with beveled stripes, the same applies to the HEV hybrid (without the possibility of charging from the mains), but the rechargeable hybrid Haohan PHEV has a smooth “nose” in the style of electric cars (the grille is below).Inside, there is a two-spoke steering wheel, a large separate tidy screen, a vertical multimedia system tablet and a tiny transmission selector. In addition, there is a rather spacious niche under the central display; a platform for wireless charging of a smartphone and a compartment for small things are hidden in it. A camera is visible in the left pillar – obviously, the SUV received a face recognition system and monitoring the driver's condition.

The base Dongfeng Aeolus Haohan will be offered with a 204 hp 1.5 petrol turbo four. in combination with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Hybrids have installations based on the same turbo engine, plus they have an electromechanical variator. The total output of the HEV version is 292 hp. and 565 Nm, PHEV version – 360 hp and 615 Nm.
