AvtoVAZ managed to return to the production of Lada Granta (and subsequently other models of the brand) after the legislators softened the requirements for cars produced in the Russian Federation. Now the norms from the pre-crisis edition of the technical regulations are gradually returning. So, in the future, for all models subject to certification, the presence of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) will again become mandatory. According to the plan, all previously valid requirements must return by February 1, 2024.

The fact that the production of Lada Granta with ABS was resumed was announced in AvtoVAZ today, July 17. The system, which prevents uncontrolled slipping, is installed on all versions of the model, starting from the basic version – Classic. According to the press release, the starting recommended retail price of Grants with ABS is 772,500 rubles. At the same time, in the price list on the official website, the price tag of this version (obviously, without ABS) is 738,900 rubles.

The current Grant is offered with two options for “stuffing”: a 90-horsepower eight-valve gasoline engine acts as a junior engine, and a 106-horsepower 16-valve engine acts as a senior; the volume of both versions is 1.6 liters. Only a five-speed manual transmission is offered as a pair.
At the beginning of this month, it became known that the production of ABS and ESP started in the Russian Federation. The production of systems was launched on a new line of the Itelma research and production enterprise located in Kostroma. The annual output of ABS and ESP at this site will initially be approximately 850,000 units. In the future, this figure is planned to be increased to 1.2 million units. in year. The company noted that they intend to fully “close the demand” of Russian automakers.

Previously, the further fate of Grants became known. In the middle of last month, the head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, said that this family would subsequently be replaced by a new one, which would be given the name Iskra. It is known that it will be based on the global CMF-B platform developed by Renault (this French company was previously the owner of AVTOVAZ, but the manufacturer left the Russian Federation last year, selling its part to NAMI on a buyback basis within six years).
The start of serial production of Lada Iskra is scheduled for the end of 2024, and sales – for 2025. According to Maxim Sokolov, the new sedan and station wagon will be slightly larger than the current four- and five-door Grants. It is possible that Iskra can get a 122-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. By the way, this motor has not yet returned to the Vesta range.
