From the creator of Nissan GT-R: AIM EV Sport 01 twin-engine sports car debuts at Goodwood

The elegant AIM EV Sport 01 rear-wheel drive electric coupe was designed by 72-year-old Japanese designer Shiro Nakamura, inspired by the aesthetics of European and Japanese sports cars 60s of the last century. The AIM EV Sport 01 is expected to be a limited edition.

Shiro Nakamura joined Nissan in 1999 and left the company in 2017, holding the position of chief designer at that time, under his leadership such iconic models for the Japanese brand as the current GT-R sports car, 370Z coupe and convertible were created, Cube microvan, Leaf electric car, Qashqai, Juke, Murano crossovers and premium Infiniti FX. Today, Nakamura heads the independent Japanese design studio SN Design Platform, where he designed the AIM EV Sport 01 electric sports car. The Japanese motorsports company AIM Company Limited is responsible for the engineering part of the project.

The AIM EV Sport 01 is a small, two-seater sports car with a very sleek, 1960s-inspired design, measuring 3.9m long, 1.9m wide, 1.2m high, and has a 2.4m wheelbase. Curiously, from certain angles, Nakamura's new masterpiece resembles the Caterham Project V electric sports car, which also debuted at Goodwood. The body of the AIM EV Sport 01 is based on a carbon-fiber monocoque, to which a space frame made of aluminum pipes is bolted. The role of rear-view mirrors is performed by cameras. The declared curb weight of the sports car is 1425 kg.

The AIM EV Sport 01 power plant consists of two electric motors mounted on the rear axle (each one rotates its own wheel), their maximum combined output is 360 kW (490 hp) and 720 Nm, but the developers assure that in theory they can be removed over 600 hp Battery capacity — 81 kWh. Suspension — on double wishbones «in a circle». Wheels are 20 inches. Dynamics not yet announced.

The saloon, which is accessed by roll-up doors, is very concisely decorated : There are no screens on the center console, but only two rotary climate control knobs. The compact and at the same time three-screen instrument panel is enclosed in a silver frame with a central round section. The passenger side has its own narrow «navigator's» screen. There is a driving mode selection box on the steering wheel. Leather and carbon are generously used in the trim.

The AIM EV Sport 01 arrived at Goodwood as a working prototype and demoed the race track. In the future, AIM intends to start small-scale production of this sports car, but the timing and price have not yet been indicated.
