One of the brightest premieres of the Goodwood Festival of Speed that ended yesterday was another neoclassical masterpiece from the California company Singer Vehicle Design — the DLS wide-body coupe Turbo inspired by the mid-1970s Porsche 934/5 racing car.
Founded in 2009 by musician and entrepreneur Rob Dickinson, Singer Vehicle Design is one of the pioneers of modern high-tech restomoding. Singer makes its sports cars based on the Porsche 911 of the 964 generation, which was produced between 1989 and 1994, while only the skeleton of the body is used, around which, in fact, a completely new car is being built. Even the engine in the latest Singer models is completely original, only the cylinder block is used from the donor car.

Singer made its name on naturally aspirated restomods, but last year switched all the way to supercharged ones when the Turbo Study debuted in coupe and convertible body styles. Singer DLS Turbo is a further development of the Turbo Study project, the letters DLS stand for Dynamics & Lightweighting Study and indicate that this is a high performance and lightweight version of the restomod.

If on the Singer Turbo Study the 3.8-liter boxer “biturbo six” produces about 500 hp. (the exact figure depends on the specific instance), then on the DLS Turbo the maximum power is increased to more than 700 hp. at 9000 rpm. Gearbox — 6-speed «mechanics», drive wheels — rear. A completely new adjustable suspension is adapted to the increased power, inside the wide openwork wheels (19-inch front, 20-inch rear) there are powerful carbon-ceramic brakes with monobloc calipers.

The track-oriented version of the DLS Turbo (the orange car in the photos) has a huge fixed rear wing and a heavily protruding front spoiler lip. In the road version (gray car), the front bumper is shorter, and instead of the rear wing, a laconic ducktail spoiler is installed at the stern. All outer plumage is made of carbon fiber. If desired, you can order road and track body kits at the same time, so that you can change them yourself in the garage.

Instead of the standard instrument panel with five dials, you can order a racing electronic scoreboard, like the first example shown at Goodwood. Singer emphasizes that each copy is purely individual and built for a specific owner, which is why the Californian company never names any prices or exact specifications.

In addition, there are many alternative high-end restomods based on the classic Porsche 911 on the market for exclusive cars today — for example, from KAMManufaktur, Sportec, Gunther Werks and Paul Stephens.
