Dodge may revive Stealth name to replace Durango crossover

The new American brand is expected to be on sale towards the end of 2024. Most likely, this SUV will have a hybrid “stuffing”.

The Dodge brand is currently included in the portfolio of the auto giant Stellantis. The American brand has been releasing the mid-size Durango crossover since 1997; over the years, the model has changed its generation several times. Now the company is releasing a third-generation SUV, which was introduced back in 2011, and survived the update in 2020. Previously, it was assumed that the model would still have a direct successor, however, according to new information, Durango will be replaced by a hybrid all-terrain vehicle with a different name.

According to Motor Trend, Dodge intends to revive one of the previously used names for the novelty: we are talking about the name Stealth, which the brand used from 1990 to 1996 years. During this period, a two-door coupe was produced, which was the twin of the Mitsubishi 3000GT (in Japan – Mitsubishi GTO). At the same time, the replacement Durango, which is tipped by this name, will be a hybrid three-row crossover.

According to preliminary data, the new Dodge Stealth can be based on either the new STLA Large platform developed by Stellaantis (suitable for both fully electric and hybrid cars), or the WL “cart” on which it is currently time based Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

Regardless of the platform, the new Dodge will not receive a V8 engine. According to the publication, the Dodge Stealth three-row crossover could get a hybrid setup, which is likely to be based on the new 3.0-liter Hurricane inline bi-turbo six, which works in tandem with an electric motor. The system will most likely also include a battery, which will make it possible to overcome part of the path purely on electric traction. Details on the SUV's potential range on a single charge are not yet available.

Such a power plant is likely to debut on the Jeep Wagoneer 4xe (Jeep brand is also owned by auto giant Stellantis): it will hit the market next year. And a Dodge-branded crossover with this system is likely to be on the market towards the end of 2024.

Stellantis, like many other automakers, is on the path of “greening”, Dodge products are no exception. So, last summer, the brand introduced the Dodge Hornet crossover, which became the twin of the Alfa Romeo Tonale. This SUV also has a hybrid version with a 1.3-liter turbo four and an electric motor on the rear axle. The total output is 289 hp, and the maximum torque is 519 Nm.

In the future, the brand will also have “clean” electric vehicles. So, we are talking, for example, about the electric sports car Dodge Charger, which the company intends to introduce in 2024. As it became known earlier, the models will offer nine options for the power plant to choose from.
