Onana could travel to Manchester on Tuesday as United struggle to arrange medical care and arrange a visa, to allow the Cameroonian – who is expected to sign a five-year deal – to join the club's pre-season tour of America. United are due to play Arsenal at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag's priority this summer has been to pick up a first-class goaltender to replace the departed David De Gea, who left as a free agent last month, and a center forward. As Onana's transfer nears completion, attention will now turn to Hoylund.

With Marcus Rashford about to sign a new five-year contract with United, Ten Hag is desperate to add more firepower to the attack. to lighten the burden on the English striker and identified Hoylund as a priority target after the club turned down an offer from Harry Kane due to serious doubts that Tottenham would be willing to sell them.

“United was already informed by Atalanta during the initial negotiations that the Italian club was not interested in taking players in exchange for Hoylund and wanted a direct cash deal.

Atalanta are believed to have set a price tag of £86m. on Hoylund. While there is agreement, which is likely to be a negotiating position, even a fee of around £20m below this mark would represent a huge expense and gamble for a player who has only played 87 senior matches.

In the past The Danish striker has scored nine goals in 32 appearances for Atalanta this season and remains an unproven player at the highest level.

The signing of Onana and United's £55m purchase of England midfielder Mason Mount will push their costs up to almost £100m. Having spent around £120m this summer, Ten Hag is looking to boost his transfer treasury through sales.

Dean Henderson is likely to leave and he will remain Nottingham Forest's first choice but negotiations are proving difficult. . Forest is also showing interest in United striker Anthony Elanga. Urawa Reds and Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is one of several alternate options United have considered.

Harry Maguire is believed to be considering his future after being stripped of the captain's armband. West Ham are one of the clubs interested in the England defender, but the cost of the deal could be prohibitive. Reports surfaced on Monday that West Ham have been denied a loan deal for Maguire.

Brazilian midfielder Fred is another who could leave United this summer amid interest from Fulham, Galatasaray » and Saudi Arabia as Ten Hag tries to clear the decks.
