General Motors Corporation has unveiled the third-generation Chevrolet Traverse large family crossover SUV, which will be available in early 2024.
In fact, the Chevrolet Traverse is positioned as a mid-size family SUV, but in terms of overall length (5189 mm) and wheelbase (3071 mm), the current second-generation crossover surpasses most competitors. At the end of its career, the “second” Traverse is selling well, in the first six months of this year 68,681 units were sold in the United States, which is 55% more than in the same period in 2022, but the main competitors are even more successful: sales of the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the first half of the year amounted to 124,956 units. (-7%), Toyota Highlander — 113,264 units, (-3.5%), Ford Explorer — 104,423 units. (+1.5%).

GM does not say anything about the platform of the new Chevrolet Traverse and does not give its key dimensions, but, according to the American media, the wheelbase has not changed – 3071 mm, and the platform is the same – C1XX, although slightly upgraded for the new power unit. The gasoline engine is still located transversely in front, only now it is not a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 (314 hp, 361 Nm), but a 2.5-liter turbo four (319 hp, 430 Nm) . Gearbox – 8-speed hydromechanical “automatic” (in the second generation crossover – 9-speed), drive – front or full. Permissible trailer weight is 2268 kg.

With the change of generations, GM stylists have tried to give the Traverse a more masculine look, with the front now more reminiscent of Chevrolet pickups thanks to the large and almost vertical grille. The sidewalls got “shark fins” in the area of the C-pillars, the rear LED lights are now with “smudges”, and in the rear bumper there are four real exhaust pipes at once.

The dashboard is now fully virtual, 11-inch, and the multimedia screen docked to it has a diagonal of 17.7 inches. A separate microclimate block has been retained. The automatic transmission mode selector moved from the central tunnel to the steering column, and the central tunnel itself became two-story, with a spacious storage niche at the lower level. The range of electronic driver assistants has been significantly expanded, up to the second level Super Cruise autopilot, which allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel.

At launch, the new Chevrolet Traverse will be available in LS, LT, Z71 and RS trim levels, all of which have three rows of seats, but only the base LS trim offers a second-row three-seater sofa and can carry up to eight people. In the LT, Z71 and RS trim levels, two separate seats with a passage between them are installed in the second row; in the LT trim level, a three-seater sofa in the second row is available as an option.
Traverse RS is positioned as a sports, for It has unique suspension settings, the largest 22-inch wheels in the range and glossy black decor.

The Traverse Z71 is the first in the range to be the most capable off-road and off-road version with 25mm more ground clearance, power-hungry shock absorbers with hydraulic breakers, all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, a special, taller front bumper with exposed red towing eyes, metal engine protection, two clutches in the rear wheel drive instead of one and unique driving electronics settings (there are several modes for different types of road surface).
The production registration of the Chevrolet Traverse has not changed: the third-generation crossover will be made in the same place as the second – at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Lansing (USA, Michigan). The “third” Traverse will appear at American dealers in early 2024, prices have not yet been announced. The outgoing second-generation crossover costs $35,915 in the US.
