The number of people working at night has also declined in recent years. The total number of night workers has fallen from 9.5 million in 2016 to 8.7 million in 2022, according to government data.
The move drew criticism from politicians and industry groups who argued it would leave workers and members of the public vulnerable and hurt trade for night-time businesses.
Mike Greeve, chairman of the Night Industries Association (NTIA) Scotland, called it «devastating news for Glasgow's night economy.»
He said workers and customers are returning home early in the morning.»
James Easdale added: “Having buses at night is not only an economic boost, but also makes the most vulnerable in society feel more secure.
“This is an important issue, and we urge ministers to look into the distribution of subsidies across the transport sector.”
