Angela Rayner called for a rethinking of Ules following the Uxbridge by-election results. she blamed the policy for her party's defeat in the by-elections in Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
Angela Reiner said Labor did not listen to voters and called for a rethinking of Ulez, which she claimed was «at the expense of working-class families who are basically fed up.»
The Conservatives took Boris Johnson's former seat by a narrow margin on Thursday, despite being well behind them by two other by-elections and national polls that put Labor 20 points ahead.
Steve Tuckwell, the Conservative candidate, has campaigned hard against Ulez, which Sadiq Khan is expanding next month to include the outskirts of Greater London.
The policy means around 10% of drivers will pay £12.50 a day. take their cars out on the road to reduce air pollution.
The issue has split the Labor Party, with Mr Khan claiming Ulez is needed to improve air quality in the capital, and party MPs complaining that she will lose their votes.
BY-PASS ELECTION — Uxbridge and South Ruislip
On Friday, Ms Rayner acknowledged that the scheme in its current form was out of reach for many Londoners and blamed its expansion for Labor's failure to topple Mr Johnson's 7210 majority in Uxbridge.
She told the BBC: «I think both sides should think about how they are going to deal with this problem.»
“The results in Uxbridge show that people want to do the right thing, but they don't want to be punished because they can't afford to change their car and there is no legal recycling scheme to help them do the right thing.
“So I think the public wants to do the right thing, they just want to make sure they don't get punished. I hear this and I think that all political parties should think about it.”
Ms Rainer said the government has an obligation to provide funding to help Londoners upgrade their old cars, but warned that Labor «must recognize that people need compensation and need a way to do things that won't affect their cost of living crisis when people can't afford it.»
«We need to make sure that whatever is being implemented isn't being driven by working families who basically have enough and can't support the extra costs being put on their households,» she added. and she.

A source close to Mr Khan responded to speculation that his policies were responsible for the by-election defeat, stating: “Winning Uxbridge and South Ruislip has always been a struggle for Labor. Labor didn't win the seat for five decades, and Tony Blair didn't get it even during the 1997 landslide.
«Sadiq has always made it clear that Ulez's expansion was indeed a difficult decision, but necessary to save the lives of young and vulnerable Londoners.»
This issue has already caused controversy between Sir Keir and other Labor Party figures, including Danny Beals, the nominee of the Labor Party in Uxbridge.
Mr Beals said that despite the Labor leader backing the expansion of Ulez, now is «not the time» to charge Londoners more for using their cars.
