“I heard a shout ahead, and everyone ducked” — the open fan, hit by the ball, turned red.

An unsuspecting viewer described his 'genuine shock' after being left o bloody and knocked down by Adam Scott's wayward driver at the 151st Open.

Christopher Ineson expressed mild embarrassment at being the only one in his group who couldn't duck to the yells of «four» as the ball went flying towards him.

The 34-year-old chef and owner of the Liverpool brewery was sprawled on the floor and was so stunned that he didn't recognize Scott when he was under went to apologize.

«It's been a trip since the 18th, full of throws, he didn't bounce,» he told Telegraph Sport, rubbing his sore head. “I heard a scream at the fore, and everyone ducked. I saw my buddy duck and then he hit me right on the back of the head.”

His friend Rob Tuffnell, who was next to him, added: “It was like hitting a golf ball on mud or plasticine.” Another colleague added: «This could only happen to Chris.»

Scott looked worried and immediately came over to check on the viewer. He then handed him a signed glove that read «Sorry mate.» Ineson said he plans to make a framed glove.

Ineson, who hopes his local brewery Black Lodge will sell beer heavily over the weekend, wrote online: «This is what happens when you take a day off!»

“We followed [Tommy] Fleetwood all the way. We went about 17 holes and then came to the 18th and were deciding who to follow next, maybe Rory, and the next thing I knew was that I was lying on the ground.

Photo: Rob Tuffnell is believed to have been one of three spectators visited by medics that day alone. “I saw the medics and I had to lie on the buggy and drive around the track, which is incredibly embarrassing,” he added. “There is no concussion. He hurts a lot, but you have to be incredibly unlucky for him to be seriously injured.»

On his encounter with Australian Scott, he added: «I didn't know who he was — I just saw a tall man ask if I was all right and just handed me a glove. It was a nice touch.”

Scott endured a tough two-punch sequence, the first going out of bounds on the right and the second going over the fence on the left.

Jordan Spit's first round also struggled, with two bad holes as a career first shin spooked the former champion before he recovered to a two-under par of 69.
