The first minivan Skoda: what it can be

The Czech brand is positioned as a manufacturer of practical family cars, while its range still lacks the most universal body option — a minivan. We decided to imagine what it could look like.

The Volkswagen concern produces a huge variety of very diverse models, among which there are minivans — for example, the Volkswagen Multivan and Viloran. In addition, a similar model may even appear in the Audi lineup, and we have done renderings of such a car. There are still no minivans in the Skoda range, although there were still universal models, including the Roomster with an unusual design, produced in a single generation from 2006 to 2015. But it was a very compact car, its length was only 4205 mm. We decided to portray a full-fledged minivan, made according to all the laws of the genre.

In modern conditions, for such a niche model, they would hardly have begun to develop an original platform, it would certainly have been borrowed from one of the concern's models. A good candidate for this role is the Volkswagen Viloran minivan, which premiered in the spring of 2020. It is intended exclusively for the Chinese market, and the Skoda version could well be targeted at other countries. The front part is made in the actual style of the brand: a large angular grille, horizontally elongated headlights, a bumper with L-shaped contrasting inserts. At the back, lights appeared in the style of a restyled Kodiaq, as well as a chrome molding between them. As for the sidewalls, the main interest here is the wide sliding rear doors.

The Volkswagen minivan is built on the MQB platform with independent rear suspension. It has impressive dimensions: length is 5346 mm, width — 1976 mm, height — 1781 mm, wheelbase — 3180 mm. For comparison, the length of the flagship Kodiaq crossover is 4700 mm, and its wheelbase is 2791 mm. Thus, the minivan has a significantly larger interior and trunk volume. The engine range could be borrowed from Voliran, which is equipped with EA888 series 2.0 TSI petrol turbo fours, developing 186 and 220 hp. Engines are equipped with a 7-speed robotic DSG, only front drive.
