A prototype for the Chinese market is currently undergoing a series of road tests. The premiere is scheduled for the end of this year.
The next generation Volkswagen Passat in Europe will only be available as a station wagon, while the sedan has been retired. The old-world novelty is planned to be unified as much as possible with the fresh related “shed” – Skoda Superb, however, it has not yet been presented (official photos of the prototypes of both the Passat and Superba were previously published). In turn, in China, the sedan was left in service: now the future novelty is at the stage of road testing.

It is worth noting that the current four-door B8 series in China is sold under the name Magotan. However, in the Chinese market there is also a model with a global name – Passat – although with a completely different design. These cars are produced by different joint ventures: for example, the production of the Volkswagen Magotan is established at the FAW Volkswagen joint venture, and the Passat with a different appearance comes off the assembly line of the SAIC Volkswagen plant. the next VW Magotan has already been partially declassified, but now there are new pictures of the model both in disguise and without camouflage, they were published by the Chinese edition of Cheshi. It is worth noting that the “old-world” Passat station wagon of the new generation may well have a different design.

Judging by the photos, the silhouette of the new Magotan will remain the same, the shape of the hood will not change, as well as the sidewalls with stampings on the line of the door handles ec. At the same time, the shape and pattern of the head optics have changed, as well as the design of the radiator grill: thin chrome strips have been replaced by denser black plastic ones. In the center is a large brand logo.

The lower part of the front bumper is also differently designed. A rather impressive air intake has been redesigned – with a pattern of a pair of horizontal stripes, as well as foglights. The stern also looks different: the lanterns of a different shape are interconnected by a decorative wide strip, in the center of which is the Volkswagen logo. Judging by the photo, the lower part of the rear bumper is also designed differently.
The dimensions of the new Magotan are still not disclosed. Recall that the length of the former sedan, intended for the Chinese market, is 4866 mm, and the distance between the axles is 2871 mm. The four-door received a new interior, and it was designed in the style of the Volkswagen ID.7 electric liftback (in China – ID.7 Vizzion), which was recently introduced. The model was deprived of an analog clock, behind the steering wheel truncated at the bottom there is a display that plays the role of a virtual tidy, and a separate tablet of the infotainment system is slightly turned towards the driver. A separate touchscreen is provided for the front passenger.

Note that the current sedan is equipped with a 150-horsepower 1.4-liter turbo engine (250 Nm). Probably the more expensive versions will keep the 2.0-liter supercharged engine, which now produces 186 hp. and 320 Nm or 220 hp and 350 Nm. In addition, the current sedan also has a hybrid version.
The next VW Magotan is expected to debut in China towards the end of this year; however, sales of the model will probably begin only next year.
