We just learned that VinFast has begun construction on its US assembly plant in North Carolina, where it plans to build three electric crossovers starting in 2025, a year later than originally forecast.
VinFast, which began selling its VF 8 crossover in California earlier this year, said it would invest up to $2 billion in the first-phase project on a site near the state capital, Raleigh.
In the initial phase, the plant will focus on the production of VinFast VF 7, VF 8 and VF 9 electric vehicles with an expected production capacity of 150 000 vehicles per year said in a message from the automaker. “Future expansion and future upgrades for the plant will be determined in the next phase and will be announced later.”
Last year, VinFast announced that the total investment would reach $4 billion over four years. VinFast reported that the Triangle Innovation Point Industrial Park project is supported by the government, which is providing $1.2 billion in in addition to local government support.
