British émigré guilty of mercy killing in Cyprus visits wife's grave for the first time

He made his first emotional visit to Mrs. Hunter's grave on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Hunter could not find the grave at first and was referred to it by Michael Polak of the Office of Justice Abroad, who represented him during the trial.

Mr Hunter, from Ashington, Northumberland, said in court that his wife «wept and begged» him to kill herself as she was suffering from blood cancer.

He didn't withstood tears when he said that he «never in a million years» would have taken the life of Mrs Hunter if she had not asked him to.

He showed the court how he held his hands over his mouth and nose his wife, and said that he eventually decided to grant her wish after she had a «tantrum».

The judges heard that he then tried to kill himself by overdosing, but the medics arrived in time to save him.
