David Hunter, UK an expat, was released from custody on Monday after a court sentenced him to two years in prison for the manslaughter of Janice, his wife of 52 years.
Following her death in December 2021 Ms. Hunter was buried in a cemetery just minutes from the couple's home in Tremituz, a small village near the coastal resort town of Paphos.
But Mr. Hunter, 76, couldn't do it. visit the grave as he was hospitalized immediately after Mrs. Hunter's death after a failed suicide attempt, after which he was taken into custody and prosecuted for murder.
The pensioner spent 19 months in prison before his acquitted of premeditated murder, but found guilty of manslaughter by a panel of three judges.
He was imprisoned for two years, but he was allowed to go free 15 minutes after his sentence by the Paphos District Court due to his time already served and good behavior.

He made his first emotional visit to Mrs. Hunter's grave on Tuesday morning.
Mr. Hunter could not find the grave at first and was referred to it by Michael Polak of the Office of Justice Abroad, who represented him during the trial.
Carrying a bouquet of pinks, purples and yellows, he immediately got down on his knees. the grave seemed to be silently shaking. He was on site for about half an hour.
The couple's daughter, Leslie Cawthorne, previously said that she thought her father would prefer to temporarily stay in Cyprus to be near the grave of his late wife and «say his opinion». say goodbye properly.»
Mr Hunter, from Ashington, Northumberland, said in court that his wife «wept and begged» him to kill herself as she was suffering from blood cancer.
He didn't withstood tears when he said that he «never in a million years» would have taken the life of Mrs Hunter if she had not asked him to.
He showed the court how he held his hands over his mouth and nose his wife, and said that he eventually decided to grant her wish after she had a «tantrum».
The judges heard that he then tried to kill himself by overdosing, but the medics arrived in time to save him.
