England Coach Brendon McCallum believes his team's pushback to level the Ashes confirmed their approach to Buzzball and gave them the confidence to reclaim the urn in yet another epic battle of the heavyweights in 2025/26.
The hosts secured wins at Headingley and The Oval and the rain stepped in as they dominated Manchester as they fought back 2-0 to ensure Australia will not win a series in England for the first time in 22 years.
< p>England have won 13 of 18 Tests (with four losses and a draw) since McCallum took over and he believes they have proven that their attacking style is one that should be followed in this series and in recent week it was improved.
«I think the best thing from our point of view is that when we were under the most pressure at 2-0, we stayed true to that and were able to achieve some results that allowed us to leave with the score 2-0. 2,” McCallum said.
“I think this is the best chance for us to win. Skipper [Ben Stokes] and I strongly believe this, and some of the performances we've seen in front of some of the guys are proof of that.
what you do is stifle this talent.
«I think we improved it a bit over the course of the series.»
Was Buzzball the right approach this year? Ash? «We have shown that we can go hand in hand with a great team»
However, the result of the series means that England will not win the Ashes for ten years by the time the next series starts in 2025. win for the first time in 15 years.
“Yes, it is obvious that this is still far away, and before that, of course, there are other difficulties to be overcome,” he said. “I think we view the growth of the team over the past 14-15 months as quite significant. Do you look back when the skipper took over and if you go back, can we take on a great Australian team — and this is a great Australian team — and go head to head with them?
“I think the answer is yes and it’s incredibly self-confidence boosting for the group and also a testament to the contribution of all the guys who really put money into their faith in this direction and in the direction that the skipper wants it to go. Undoubtedly, in two and a half years there will be new faces for both sides. But again I think it could be another amazing series when the time comes. But we have a lot of other things to focus on soon. First, let it soak in and enjoy it.”
It was New Zealand's McCallum's first experience with Ashes, and he admitted he didn't want the series to end.
«I've looked at this series from afar and now being a part of it and seeing how special it is is something absolutely incredible,» he said. «I don't want this to end for real, I think we should go back and do five more Tests and keep doing what we're doing.
«It's been an incredible six weeks and I'm very proud to share a dressing room with the boys from England. You also share this series with the Aussie guys who of course… they walk away with an urn and both teams walk away with two wins under their belts but I think both sides have stayed true to their style and that's what makes for a great heavyweight fight weight. These are two different styles and full conviction in them.
