Ford made bold predictions about its ability to compete and even overtake Tesla in electric vehicle production, or at least sales in the United States. Last year, the brand announced that it would reach a production capacity of 600,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2023, and confirmed that goal in April at the time of the first quarter profit and loss. Although sales of the Mustang Mach-E have been optimistic, the electric the F-150 Lightningpickup was less popular with consumers. Figures for 2023 show that Lightning sales appear to have peaked at around 4,400 units in the quarter. Since production was halted during the month of July, it is likely that Q3 sales of the F-150 Lightning will also suffer, although Ford is optimistic.
