Amazing 2023 Ashes is being compared from start to finish to the classic 2005 series.
Both series were great fun with lots of twists and turns.

I found myself with seven members of the 2023 Ashes side — Strauss and Vaughan from 2005 were especially unlucky, while Harry Brook and Broad from the 2023 side also have serious complaints. But the combination of Stokes — even with his limited bowling — and Flintoff in tandem is too big to resist. Wakes will take the new ball with either Flintoff or Jones, who can swing the ball in the normal way or vice versa. The combination of Flintoff, Jones, Wood and Stokes means this attack will take wickets with both the old ball and the new one. Moin overshadows Ashley Giles as the spinner and fits the spirit of the team better.

I can't. Believe me, I'm not picking Trescothick, the only person who influenced both series as a batsman and batsman. But Strauss was the only person to hit two hundred points in both series, and Crowley was great (thanks in part to Trescottick).
Moin and Johnny Barstow simply contributed more than their 2005 counterparts. Jones calls Wood an absolute paceman, and, much to his regret, Stokes overlooks Flintoff, who in 2005 did indeed play as an all-rounder. Vaughan's presence means that Stokes' tactical genius is not being missed. The rest was easy enough.

If conditions call for a taller bowler, I would don't mind if Jones gets replaced by Broad or Harmison, or maybe a spinner, but otherwise Ruth can handle it. As for the new ball, teammate Wouks, Wood would justify him now that he can hit rockets. Two top notch all-rounders, assuming Stokes can bowl, make this an outstanding attack. We'll have to choose the goaltender who held up the best in the two respective series, and that should be Geraint Jones, although Bairstow did well at the end.
