This model of the Bavarian brand is not known to be popular in the home market. It is expected that the five-door will not last until the 2024 model year.
The BMW 6 series Gran Turismo appeared in 2017: the model with the G32 index replaced the fifth series liftback. This five-door car has undergone an update in 2020, during which its appearance and interior have been tweaked, as well as the engine range has been revised. Now it is reported that the 6 series Gran Turismo may not have a successor: it is possible that the liftback will be retired due to modest performance in the market.

The German site BimmerToday reports that this model may leave the line of the Bavarian brand. Note that the BMW 6 series Gran Turismo has never been in high demand in the home market. So, according to the results of the whole last year, only 509 copies were sold in Germany. For comparison, the 5 series family, from which the liftback on the same platform had previously separated, sold four-digit monthly sales in the home market in 2022. This year, the position of the “six” has not improved — in the first half of the year the Germans bought only 237 units. p>There is no official confirmation that BMW will retire the 6 series Gran Turismo yet. According to rumors, the 2023 model year will be the last for this liftback. This means that the car will remain on the assembly line for a few more months, and then dealers will only have to sell the remaining copies. />
However, in this case, the name BMW 6 series, most likely, will not be left to “gather dust on the shelf”. At the beginning of last year, it was reported that the BMW 4 series and 8 series could be combined into one family. Then it was assumed that the coupe and convertibles would be sold under a different name, namely the 6 series. It is expected that such a merger will take place in 2026.
It is worth noting that in this case, BMW will follow the path of another German concern: for example, at the beginning of last month, a Mercedes-Benz coupe and convertible were presented CLE — the model replaced the two-door families C-Class and E-Class. Sales of this novelty in the European market will start this fall.
The current BMW 6 series Gran Turismo liftback is equipped with mild hybrid powertrains based on gasoline and diesel engines. The first include: 630i with a 2.0-liter turbo four with 245 hp. and the 640i with a 3.0-liter inline turbo with 333 hp. (This variant is available with xDrive all-wheel drive). The list of the latter includes: 620d with a 190-horsepower four-cylinder engine, 630d with a 286-horsepower six-cylinder version and 640d with a 340-horsepower engine with the same number of cylinders. The latest version can only be all-wheel drive, and for other diesels xDrive is an option.
Recall that one of the recent novelties of the brand was the “hot” compact crossover BMW X1 M35i xDrive. This model is equipped with an upgraded 2.0-liter four-cylinder biturbo engine, the return of which in the European specification is 300 hp. (in the USA — 317 hp), and the maximum torque is 400 Nm (regardless of the market).
