A completely new model in the company's lineup and the next generation electric version of the X2 have been announced. Both crossovers are currently under development, but the company has already taken the novelty to tests at the Nürburgring.
This is a heavily camouflaged prototype that performs a test run on the legendary track. We can can tell if it is fast, but the sound from tires indicates that the car is being tested to the very limit.
However we know that the iX2 will be heavily based on iX1. The two electric crossovers will be technically identical, which means the iX2 is expected to be available in an xDrive30e version with 313 horsepower and 494 Nm. In the corresponding iX1 model, a 64.7 kilowatt-hour battery provides a range of 438 kilometers on a single charge.
From design the new X2 and iX2 will be completely different from the current X2. Gone is the elevated look of the sedan, photos have confirmed that the crossover will evolve into a mini X6 of sorts with a sloping roofline. The new model is expected to be significantly larger than its predecessor.
BMW has not announced an official launch date for the iX2, but given the impending start of production, we expect to see it in cherry form in the coming months.
