Publisher Pan MacMillan said it secured the rights to the book after a “hotly contested auction by nine publishers.” < /p>

While the announcement did not explicitly mention the police investigation into the SNP's finances, in which Ms Sturgeon was arrested in June and her home was ransacked by detectives, it did say that it would cover all “significant events of her time.”

The former First Minister, who is known to be an avid reader, has previously said she might one day write her memoirs, and publishing experts have said she can count on a six-figure advance.

Because she is still MSP, Ms Sturgeon will be required to disclose any income she receives from the deal.

Pan Macmillan said in a statement: “The result will be a deeply personal and candid memoir by one of Britain’s most important political leaders of the last time”.

The as-yet-untitled book “tells her journey from a shy working-class child in Ayrshire to the steps of Bute House.” , the publisher said.

Expected to be published in 2025, it will focus on Ms Sturgeon's relationship with British prime ministers, the Scottish independence referendum, Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic.

Ms Sturgeon said: “I am thrilled to be working with Pan Macmillan, a world renowned publisher with proud Scottish roots. I liked my life in politics, but since childhood I have cherished the desire to write. So starting this book is interesting, if challenging.

“I aim to chronicle the key events in Scottish and British politics over the past three decades and take the reader behind the scenes to describe what it was like. “in the room”, who else was there, the relationships involved and how the decisions were made.

“I will talk about what I am proud of and be honest about my regrets. I will think about the problems of a woman in politics and tell more about the person behind the politician. I will also use my 35 years of experience to offer some thoughts on the future of Scotland, the UK and democracy in general.”

Craig Hoy, chairman of the Scottish Conservative, said: “Nicola Sturgeon's well-documented difficulties will no doubt warm up interest in her book, but if she doesn't want it to be registered as “fiction”, she needs to be frank and honest about her huge flaws first. minister and leader of the SNP.

“Her reputation has been hit hard in recent months, not only by the scandal that has engulfed her and her husband, but also by the fact that some of her key policies, such as the bail-back scheme, the national care service, devastating restrictions on fish catch and the ban on alcohol advertising – it all collapsed.

“If you add to that Nicola Sturgeon's terrible legacy of education and drug deaths and think about how she divided Scotland with her never ending desire for division, she has a pretty grim story.”

Ms. Sturgeon vehemently denies any wrongdoing regarding the police investigation into the SNP finances.

Peter Murrell, her husband and ex The SNP chief executive was also arrested along with former SNP treasurer Colin Beatty. All three were released without charge after questioning.

Mike Harpley, director of non-fiction publishing house Pan Macmillan, said Ms. Sturgeon had already begun work on the book, adding that passages she had already wrote, “remarkable for their wit, honesty and excellent writing.”

Ms Sturgeon is expected to be asked about the ongoing police investigation Thursday when she is interviewed by broadcaster Ian Dale at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
