Several photos that appear to show the insides of the upcoming facelifted Tesla Model 3 Highland have been leaked online, giving us an idea of what to expect from a design standpoint from the facelifted entry-level all-electric sedan level. The images were posted on social media by xiaoteshushu and subsequently removed, apparently at the request of a parts supplier, but Drive Tesla Canada managed to upload the re-posted on the internet.
As previously reported, the Model 3, known as Project Highland, is expected to be a much simpler vehicle in terms of production, using fewer and larger parts to keep production costs as low as possible. This approach can be seen in the photo, which shows the current front door map at the top and the proposed Highland door map at the bottom.
Today the Model 3 has wood or white trim at the top of the front door cards. However, looking at the leaked image, the Highland Model 3 will no longer have this design element. Instead, the door card appears to be much simpler, with an atmospheric lighting strip at the top and new fabric material. Also, the large speaker in the bottom left appears to be complemented by a new, smaller speaker mounted above it, possibly a tweeter.
Another photo shows the 18″ Aero wheels that were seen some time ago on a prototype.
Tesla Model 3 has been in production for six years now, and the so-called Project Highland will reportedly be a mid-life renewal of sorts, as the front and rear will be redesigned, the latest Hardware 4.0 driver assistance computer will appear, and other manufacturing improvements will occur that should make it easier and more economical to assemble. Production of the upgraded Model 3 has reportedly already begun at the company's Shanghai gigafactory in China, and the Fremont plant in the United States is believed to be next in line to start assembling the electric car.
