Jaguar will lead a £100,000 four-door GT into its all-electric future. The new GTis expected to take a purposeful step away from the brand's current lineup, with a wide stance, some distinct boxy corners and straight lines, and a prominent diffuser. The overall effect is enhanced by the razor-thin taillights.
As new JLR head Adrian Mardell explained in an interview with Auto Express Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler, there is a very clear desire to bring Jaguar in a new direction with a fresh visual identity that expresses the emotions of the brand. To that end, the Jaguardesign team developed many different options that were considered by a number of key stakeholders.
The fast-paced process was spearheaded by JLR's Chief Creative Officer Jerry McGovern . Named Project Renaissance, it handed over to three teams at the design studio JLRat Gaydon, a common challenge to create a family of three different types of vehicles, resulting in 18 clay models in just three months.
A number of prototypes of the new GT will be tested on the road, with the official debut of the car scheduled for around April or May 2024. The novelty will go on sale not earlier than 2025.
In addition, we should expect the release of two new crossovers that will complete the line.
The British brand is completely rebooted as part of the JLR Reimagine strategy, without any replacements for existing models. Instead, Jaguarwill shift the focus to more expensive cars that will be positioned alongside Range Rover, Defenderand Discovery.
The three-car range will be built in Solihull, the same plant that will also assemble the all-electric Range Rover. The update will kick off with a GT that will be the most powerful production Jaguarcar ever built and surpass the brand's existing electric vehicle, the I-Pace, in terms of stock range and charging capacity.
Jaguar has not released engine output or performance figures, but says the new model will have a range of up to 700km and will be able to charge a battery for 320 km in 15 minutes.
