Chinese state corporation Dongfeng Motor is expanding its presence in the dynamically developing NEV segment of the Chinese car market. The abbreviation NEV stands for New Energy Vehicle, it combines electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen vehicles.
Dongfeng already has two full-fledged NEV brands — this is a well-known premium Voyah in Russia and a completely fresh off-road Mengshi, and now they will be accompanied by the eπ and Nammi brands, with their help Dongfeng wants to reach sales of 1 million NEV cars per year by 2025.
The eπ brand was introduced last week without a clear positioning, before the eπ name was used for the Dongfeng concept coupe introduced in 2018. The first eπ model will be a large sedan with a factory index S73, its full premiere will take place in the coming days or weeks, sales will begin before the end of the year. For the eπ S73, an advanced battery thermal management system is announced to ensure stable performance and fast charging in any weather, and an electric propulsion system with a torque of 620 Nm. No other details yet.
The Nammi brand was presented yesterday, before Nammi was a sub-brand that sold variations on the Dacia Spring theme (the production of the Romanian model was launched on Dongfeng factory in Shiyan, China), that is, inexpensive electric hatchbacks with rather modest technical characteristics. As a full-fledged brand, Nammi will offer more solid and modern, but at the same time relatively affordable and mass-produced electric vehicles.
Nammi's first model as an independent brand will be a small hatchback with the index 01 on the new Dongfeng Quantum Architecture 3 platform, it will go on sale before the end of this year, then Nammi will introduce 1-2 new items per year in order to reach the sales level of 400,000 cars per year by 2025, that is, Nammi, obviously, should become the most massive NEV brand of Dongfeng Corporation.
Nammi 01, as it is easy to replace, outside and inside strongly resembles the Sino-German subcompact crossover smart # 1 (the smart brand is controlled by the holding Geely). The interior trim clearly claims to be premium: the front panel and door cards are upholstered in light quilted leather, and the glove compartment section is visually fastened with contrasting black straps.
There are few technical details yet: it is known that the Nammi 01 will receive a solid-state battery (it will be possible to replenish a range of 200 km in just 8 minutes), a 120 kW (163 hp) electric motor and an autopilot second level. Motor-wheels are promised to future Nammi models. Recall that at the beginning of this year, a solid-state battery and motor-wheels were tested on the Dongfeng Aeolus E70 sedan, but then we honestly did not expect that these advanced and complex components would go into mass production so soon.
