The company chose the Moskvich plant located in the capital of the Russian Federation, which previously belonged to the French group Renault, as a site.
The history of Atom began with the presentation in December 2020 of the compact electric car Kama-1. Then it was reported that the draft model was created by the specialists of the «Center for Computer Engineering» of SPbPU, and KAMAZ became a technology partner. Kama-1 did not advance beyond a single prototype. Atom, in fact, is a kind of successor to the Kama-1 project: the first teaser of the future electric car was published last fall.

The Russian electric car Atom, created by Kama JSC registered in Naberezhnye Chelny in 2021, debuted in May of this year. The “green” compact hatchback was presented as a concept, while the developer noted that the production version would largely repeat the shown show car. It is known that the commercial five-door will have an original platform, an electric motor, a traction battery — all of Russian development (in particular, a battery from Rener).
The project manager is Harald Grubel, who previously worked at Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and AVTOVAZ. The engineering team of the Russian and Chinese Atom high-voltage system centers is led by Larry Wang, who previously participated in Ford and Byton projects. />
Today it became known that Atom plans to produce its electric cars at the facilities of the Moskvich plant in the capital (recall that it used to belong to the Renault Group, in particular, Duster, Kaptur and Arkana crossovers, which are in demand in the Russian Federation, rolled off its assembly line). The parties signed a relevant memorandum for the provision of services for the production of Atom electric vehicles on the territory of the enterprise.The document assumes that Atom will receive contract assembly services, including conveyor welding, painting and assembly of electric vehicles. The choice of the Moscow site was reportedly the result of «careful analysis and selection among available production facilities». Recall that the production of cars under the Moskvich brand was established with the assistance of KAMAZ, and the main investor of Kama JSC is the general director of the cargo company Sergey Kogogin.

As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the length of the conceptual «electric train» is 3995 mm, width — 1780 mm, and height — 1615 mm. The show car received hinged doors, retractable door handles, original rims shod in low-profile rubber, running lights in the form of a thin strip, a plug in body color, lining on the wheel arches made of black plastic. Note that the dimensions of a commercial hatchback may turn out to be somewhat different, its power reserve on a single charge will be about 500 km, and the electric car will need seven seconds to accelerate from standstill to “hundreds”.
