Martina Navratilova advised Iga Swiatek to “suck”. it's up,” after the world No. 1 complained of fatigue after last week's loss to Coco Gauff in the Western & Southern Open.
After that match, Swiatek told reporters, “My gas tank is practically empty. To be honest, I'm not even going to regret [losing] much, because I'm glad that now I will have days off.”
But Navratilova, who has won four singles titles and 12 doubles titles at the US Open, has little sympathy for Swiatek's plight. “I used to get tired after the US Open, but not before it,” Navratilova said. “The only time I felt tired before the US Open was in 1976 when we played world team tennis and I played 23 matches after Wimbledon. I lost in the first round to Janet Newberry because I was exhausted.
«I understand the stress players are under today,» added Navratilova, who will commentate for the US Open for Sky Sports. “Because Iga was Polish, she probably had to play in Warsaw (which started just a week after Wimbledon ended). So maybe that's why she's tired. But I still have to say, «Come on, just deal with it.» Click here for more information from Navratilova and news on the draw.

Latest from the US Open
Navratilova added, “It’s September now. You haven't played that many tournaments. And it's the US Open! So if you can't get up for this or feel mentally tired, don't play. Just take a vacation, force yourself to take a vacation. I never gave myself permission to do this, and it never occurred to me that I could do it.
«Or just go on and say, 'Okay, I'm fine.' It's only two weeks. That's seven games. I literally have to work hard for maybe 20 hours over the next two weeks.” You just put up with it and say, «I'll get into this and take a look at what normal people do for a living.»
And yes, you are the center of attention. But, you know, good problem, right? This is what you've wanted all your life. And here you are. So you just have to be tougher in that regard. I just don't have that kind of empathy when I think about what we've been through.”

On the other side male grid — the second sowing. Novak Djokovic's first opponent will be Alexander Muller of France. He will feel confident after a brilliant victory over Alcaraz in Cincinnati last week.
