Chery's new subsidiary Jaecoo (pronounced in Russian as «jake») is preparing to enter the Russian market. The debut model will be the compact crossover Jaecoo J7, it will be offered with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive to choose from. The basic equipment is very rich, so the Jaecoo J7 will definitely not be cheap.
The multi-brand strategy allows Chery to fulfill KPIs for the Russian market and fill the gaps that have arisen after the departure of European and Japanese brands. The Jaecoo brand is one of the freshest in the Chery range, it was launched this spring and is positioned slightly higher than the near-premium Omoda, but falls short of the premium brand Exeed. Such a fine crushing with a common technical basis causes a certain skepticism among a sophisticated consumer, but the Volkswagen concern, to tell the truth, has been doing the same for many years — it offers the same equipment in “wrappers” of different brands. The difference is that all brands of the German concern have a rich history, while Chinese companies have to create their own from scratch.
The Jaecoo J7 is a variation of the Chery Explore 06 crossover that has just entered the Chinese market. Russian sales of the Jaecoo J7 will begin at the end of September, prices have not yet been announced, but pre-orders are already being accepted, and this week technical specifications and equipment have been disclosed.
The overall length of the Jaecoo J7 is 4500 mm, width — 1865 mm, height — 1680 mm, wheelbase — 2672 mm. The ground clearance for the front-wheel drive version is 196 mm, for the all-wheel drive version it is 186 mm. Trunk volume — 412 liters, with folded second row seats — 1332 liters. Front suspension is McPherson type, rear is multi-link.

Under the hood is a transversely mounted 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine with factory index SQRF4J16, injection — direct, but you can refuel with 92-m gasoline. Maximum return — 186 hp at 5500 rpm and 275 Nm at 2000-4000 rpm. Gearbox — only 7-speed «automatic» type DCT (with two clutches).
The drive, as we said above, is front or full, with an electronically controlled power take-off to the rear axle. Jaecoo's all-wheel drive system is called ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System), it has seven modes of operation, including driving on snow, mud and sand. All-wheel drive Jaecoo J7 will accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, front-wheel drive — in 9.4 seconds, the maximum speed in both cases is limited to 180 km/h.
At launch, the Jaecoo J7 will have four trim levels to choose from – Lifestyle, Ultimate, Active, and Supreme. The basic Lifestyle includes front, side and window airbags, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel and windshield, electric adjustment of the driver's seat, ventilation of the driver's seat, height and reach adjustable steering column, 10.25-inch instrument screen, 13.2-inch multimedia screen, six-speaker audio system, wireless smartphone charger, five USB ports, front and rear parking sensors, surround view cameras, blind spot monitoring system, forward collision warning system , electronic hill assist, electronic lane change assistant, rain and light sensors, cruise control, full LED headlights, power tailgate, 18″ alloy wheels.
