Michelle Donelan promised rural homes and businesses that they will have access to modern satellite broadband in the coming months.

The Science Minister said she would ensure that the hardest-to-reach rural areas can take advantage of this opportunity. from technology.

Speaking at the Tory conference, Ms Donelan said: “I'm announcing that over the coming months we will be bringing state-of-the-art satellite broadband to very, very hard-to-reach rural homes and businesses. unlocking the potential of these rural areas.

“And I’m also announcing a new £60 million regional innovation fund – an injection of cash that will be felt almost immediately.”

Minister for Science also pledged to spend a further £8 million on scholarships for artificial intelligence (AI) research, “giving 800 more people the opportunity to excel in AI and ensuring we are at the forefront of the global conversation on AI safety.”

And she announced a review of the use of sex and gender in “scientific research and statistics”, including in government.

“We will not sit back and watch, how bigoted views are dimming the light of science that is leading us in the right direction,” Ms Donelan said.
