    Russian car market in September: Geely Monjaro entered the TOP 10, Jetour appeared in the list of brands

    The Russian market of new passenger cars increased by 1.5 times in the first three quarters of 2023: 717 were sold during the specified period ,3 thousand copies.

    The September indicators of the passenger car market in the Russian Federation have become known, the next report was published by Autostat (remember, it uses information about the state registration of new vehicles in the country, and not data on dealer shipments; this approach allows us to take into account those cars that were imported in the Russian Federation under parallel import – a scheme that was legalized last year). According to the agency’s calculations, in September of this year, 110,358 new passenger cars were sold on the Russian market, which is 2.5 times more than in the same month of 2022 (then less than 44.4 thousand new passenger cars were registered) .

    It is worth noting that September sales are only 0.6% higher than in August. At the same time, the Russian car market for the second month in a row maintained sales at a level above the “psychological mark” of 100 thousand units.

    Lada continues to lead the list of best-selling brands on the Russian car market: its share in September accounted for 31.7% of the total number of passenger cars sold in the country. All models produced by AVTOVAZ are among the ten most popular in the Russian Federation. Thus, the first place remained for Granta (share – 17.6%), “silver” was regained by Vesta (market share – 5.8%), which last month was in fourth place. Now this position is occupied by the Niva Travel SUV (share – 4.5%), and the “classic” all-terrain vehicle Niva Legend is in sixth place (share – 3.8%).

    Chery remains the most popular foreign brand in the Russian Federation: the share of this brand’s products at the end of September accounted for 11%. Chery added a couple of crossovers to the list of best-selling cars in the Russian Federation – Tiggo 7 Pro Max is in fifth place (market share – 4.1%), and Tiggo 4 Pro is in eighth place (share – 3.4%).

    Haval closes the top three brands; in September, the share of this “celestial” brand was 10%. Its most popular car is the Jolion crossover, which still ranks third in the TOP 10 most popular cars in the Russian Federation (share – 5.2%).

    On the fourth line in the brand ranking is another brand from China – Geely, its share in the Russian car market in September was 8.3%. Last month, this brand placed two in the top ten best-selling models in the country: in ninth place is the Coolray SUV, familiar to Russians (share – 2.9%), by the way, sales of an updated version of this model recently started in the Russian Federation. And on the tenth line is the newcomer Monjaro (share – 2.6%), its sales started here only in March 2023.

    The top five among brands is closed by another “Chinese” – Changan – with a market share of 5.5%. In sixth place is Chery's sub-brand, Omoda (market share – 4.7%), whose C5 SUV is also among the top ten models (its share is 3.7%). In the list of brands, Exeed is in seventh line (share – 4.1%), Kia is still in eighth, Toyota is in ninth (share of each brand is 2.1%).

    There are changes on the tenth line of the list of brands: the Korean brand Hyundai went lower on the list, and its place was taken by another one Chinese brand – Jetour (share – 1.5%). By the way, quite recently it presented another model in the Russian Federation, its role was played by the X70 Plus crossover.

    According to Autostat calculations, based on the results of the first three quarters of this year, due to the low base effect, the Russian market of new passenger cars increased by 1.5 times: during the specified period, 717,310 units were sold (242,595 more cars).
