The Kia Carens crossvan received a new top version of the X-Line: premium, not off-road

The most expensive version was distinguished by its decor and an expanded list of equipment. The new version is available with petrol or diesel engines.

The current three-row Kia Carens debuted at the end of 2021, it is built on the basis of the Seltos SUV. The model is a mixture of a van and a crossover, that is, it is a crossvan. The main market for fresh Carens is India, where the main production site is located. At the same time, the crossvan has not become a local exclusive: today it is also sold in the countries of Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia. However, it is the Indian Karens who is the first to try on all the new things: such a van has just acquired the X-Line package.

In general, Kia usually denotes “off-road” versions of its models with “X”. However, with Carens it is different: this name is used for the new luxury version. Its features are an exclusive matte body color Matte Graphite (gray), extended black exterior decor, 16-inch wheels of a special design, silver front brake calipers and greenish “leather” upholstery in the cabin.

In addition, the list of standard equipment of the Kia Carens X-Line has been supplemented by a separate display for rear passengers, and there is only one: a 10.1-inch tablet is attached to the headrest of the front passenger seat (in India it is on the left). And the rear “climate” control unit is built into the back of the driver’s seat — this solution is also used in other expensive versions of the crossvan. Otherwise, the equipment of the X-Line is the same as that of the former top version Luxury Plus: there is a Bose audio system, atmospheric lighting, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a multimedia system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a rear view camera and Cruise control. Carens X-Line comes exclusively with six seats, while in other trim levels you can choose a seven-seater interior.

The top crossover is offered with two engines to choose from — a 1.5 T-GDI petrol turbo-four (160 hp, 253 Nm) and a 1.5 CRDi VGT turbodiesel (116 hp, 250 Nm). The first engine is paired with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, the second is equipped with a classic six-speed automatic transmission. For simpler versions, a 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol engine (115 hp, 144 Nm) is also provided in combination with a six-speed manual transmission. In any case, the drive is only front-wheel drive.

The petrol Kia Carens X-Line costs 1,894,900 rupees, which is equivalent to approximately 2,246,000 rubles at the current exchange rate. For a top-end crossvan with a diesel engine they are asking 1,944,000 rupees (about 2,304,000 rubles). Well, the basic Carens with aspirated 1.5 costs from 1,044,900 rupees (1,238,000 rubles).
