The Ram 1500 TRX superpickup is preparing for restyling, the V8 will be replaced by an in-line six

In early autumn, Stellantis Corporation presented the farewell Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition with a 712-horsepower V8 compressor engine, but promised that for TRX is not the end of the story, but only the end of a specific chapter. Yesterday, the American media found out what will happen next with TRX.

In a note about the Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition, we suggested that the next superpickup will be fully electric, because the long-awaited base Ram 1500 REV will hit the market in 2024, but this week it turned out that the TRX will have a much more prosaic continuation. Back in August, we told you that the “hydrocarbon” Ram 1500 family is awaiting a planned restyling; gasoline pickups will be produced and sold in parallel with their electric counterparts. According to unofficial information, all V8 engines will retire and will be replaced by a new 3.0-liter inline twin-turbo six Hurricane, and it seems that the updated Ram 1500 TRX will also receive it.

Yesterday, American media, in particular Autoblog and Car and Driver magazines, distributed spy photos and videos of the updated Ram 1500 TRX with draped front and rear, and from the sound of the exhaust they established that under the hood is not a compressor V8, but a supercharged R6. The only question is how many “horses” the updated TRX will have: American colleagues suggest that it will be about 550 hp. — Stellantis Corporation pointed to approximately this ceiling during the premiere of the Hurricane engine family.

550 hp — this is not bad compared to the Ford F-150 Raptor with its 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo petrol engine producing 456 hp, but far from the canonical Ram 1500 TRX with a compressor V8. The Ford F-150 Raptor, by the way, also has a version with a compressor V8 — it is designated R, but is not currently available for order (it is assumed that the Raptor R will return to the range after an update).

Get from 3.0-liter inline six with 700 hp. and higher in industrial production it will be a little difficult, but this is with traditional methods of boosting, but as part of a hybrid power plant you can get at least 1000 — if you wish. It’s not a fact that Stellantis has such a desire and, most likely, the Ram 1500 TRX of the 2025 model year will be limited to the “duty” 550 hp, but, as they say, let’s not lose hope.

Premiere date The updated Ram 1500 TRX has not yet been officially announced — perhaps it will be shown in November along with the entire updated Ram 1500 family, or maybe it will receive a separate premiere later. The unique TRX chassis, adapted for high-speed driving across deserts, rocks and gullies, will be retained in the updated superpickup in any case — it would be stupid to abandon all this engineering splendor; this “hardware” does not affect the environmental characteristics in any way.
