The new five-door of the Bavarian brand will have the same engine range as the 5 series sedan, which will soon reach dealers in Europe.
The German company began producing the BMW 5 series in 1972, and the eighth generation model (G60 series) and its all-electric version of the BMW i5 were declassified in May of this year, and the rechargeable hybrid “five” debuted in late last month. The four-door models will soon be joined by the BMW 5 series Touring and i5 Touring station wagons.

So far, the Bavarian manufacturer is keeping the appearance of the five-door a secret, although patent images of the model have already been published on the Internet. By the way, based on them, the designer Kolesa.ru created renderings of the BMW 5 series Touring. The company has so far shared another teaser of the future station wagon: the darkened image shows the profile of the car, you can see the silhouette of the upper part, a laconic spoiler at the top of the fifth door, a shark fin antenna, and lights that partially extend onto the rear wings.

The front part will obviously be designed in the same way as the current sedan. Most likely, the 5 series Touring will have a relatively small radiator grille in the shape of signature “nostrils” with a pattern of vertical stripes and a silver edging (it can be illuminated for an additional fee). And the BMW i5 Touring will probably have a similar design for the plug. The head optics with the “brackets” of running lights will probably be the same, as well as the air intakes integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.
There will be no differences in the interior of the new product. So on the front panel of the BMW 5 series Touring there will be a large curved display that combines a 12.3-inch diagonal virtual instrument panel, as well as a 14.9-inch diagonal touchscreen for the infotainment system. Climate control is controlled using a multimedia screen, and ventilation deflectors are controlled using joysticks, which are located at the bottom of the front panel. For an additional fee, they can offer a BMW Interaction Bar with touch inserts, leather interior trim, a projection screen and four-zone climate control.

The company said that the engine range of the new five-door will be the same as that of the sedan. This means that in Europe the BMW 5 series Touring will be offered with electrified petrol and diesel engines: they will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with an integrated 48-volt starter-generator. Let us remind you that the starting version will be a rear-wheel drive version with a 2.0-liter turbo-four. The power of the MHEV unit is 190 hp and the maximum torque is 330 Nm. Also on the list will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with output equal to 197 hp. (400 Nm). Drive – rear or all-wheel drive.
The station wagon will have a pair of rechargeable hybrids. The starting version will be based on a 2.0-liter petrol turbo-four, working in tandem with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. The total output of this system is 299 hp and the maximum torque is 450 Nm. The system also includes a traction battery with a capacity of 19.4 kWh.

The top-end hybrid requires all-wheel drive and a power plant based on a 3.0- liter inline six-cylinder engine. It comes complete with a more powerful electric motor built into the 8-speed automatic transmission. For such a 5 series Touring, the total system power will be 489 hp. (700 Nm). The battery is the same.
The initial version of the BMW i5 Touring will receive a single 340-horsepower electric motor located on the rear axle (maximum torque – 430 Nm). The top-end “green” version has all-wheel drive and a dual-motor unit, the total output of which is 601 hp. (820 Nm). The capacity of the traction battery is 81.2 kWh. The “electric trains” are intended for the car markets of Europe, Japan and Taiwan.
The company said that the BMW 5 series Touring will go on sale in the spring of 2024, which means that the full premiere of the new product will take place over the next few months.
