Referee Darren England and his assistant Dan Cook, who were at the center of the chaos in which Ware disallowed goals for Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur last month, were brought back from the cold by Howard Webb.< /p>

Having been removed from the appointment lists for the remaining games before the international break, England and Cook returned to the Premier League this weekend.

England will return as the fourth official for Brentford's home game against Burnley on Saturday. Cook has been appointed as one of the assistant referees for Sheffield United's home match against Manchester United.

It was a loss of concentration that led to Luis Diaz's legitimate goal against Spurs on September 30 being disallowed for offside. England and Cook, Ware and Ware's assistant in that game did not notice that referee Simon Hooper had disallowed Diaz's goal. Based on the erroneous assumption that a goal had been scored, England checked that he was in play and gave Hooper a “check complete”.

Only after play had resumed did England and Cook on the replay operator's prompt Var Mo Abby realize your mistake. The laws dictate that after restarting the game, Var cannot return to a previous decision, even if the participants know that a mistake was made.

Although Webb, chief referee of PGMOL, the refereeing body, quickly brought the pair back, they are unlikely to officiate at Liverpool games this season. In the past, PGMOL has prevented officials from approaching clubs where they have made controversial or erroneous decisions. The unofficial policy was to ease pressure on officials and reassure clubs.

Hooper was appointed as Newcastle's captain for the game against Crystal Palace. The Sheffield United v Manchester United match will be officiated by Michael Oliver, the fourth official for the Liverpool v Spurs match. This week Webb said Oliver should have sacked Mateo Kovacic following Manchester City's defeat to Arsenal in the last round of Premier League matches.
