Aaron Ramsdale has admitted that it is impossible to drown out the noise in the battle for the Arsenal No. 1 title after his own father got into a row with Jamie Carragher — straight from the golf course.

Ramsdale, 25, signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal at the end of last season, having established himself as number 1 in two years since moving from Sheffield United. But Arteta loaned Raya out with an option to buy and played the Spaniard in his last four Premier League games and two Champions League games.

Ramsdale insists the pair work well together, hence his reaction during the draw with Spurs, but he admitted he has to deal with the strong emotions that come with not playing.

“We spend three or four hours a day with each other — there are four or four hours.” There are five of us in this group, so if we don’t work together, it won’t work,” he said.

“We work very well together professionally. When asked if the situation was a concern for his place in the England squad ahead of next year's European Championships, Ramsdale replied: «Yes, of course, it's the first time I've been in that situation.»

Ramsdale expects a tight battle for a place in the Germany squad, with Nick Pope left out of the squad for last week's qualifier against Italy and Sam Johnston given a start in the friendly against Australia.

“There are more than three [goalkeepers] ],” Ramsdale added. “Obviously Popy was unlucky to miss the game, Sam played in this camp, I played in this camp before.

“So I think the manager will look at whoever is available — I need to get back into my club team to keep getting selected [for the England squad] and continue to give the manager a headache because if I don't then it there is a simpler solution for him. So I think there are three or four, maybe five [goalkeepers], so for a coach it's very, very good because you don't want to have just one goalie to choose from.»

He says he doesn't regret backing his rival Raya to save Spurs striker Brennan Johnson.

«There are times when you do the right thing, but it's the wrong thing and if you If you don't do it, it's wrong.
