This is a model for the Japanese market. In the homeland of the brand, the “traditional” SUV switched to a two-liter engine, and the hybrid’s electric motors were replaced. In addition, the configurations have been revised.
The full-fledged Toyota Corolla Cross crossover, created on the same GA-C platform as the Corolla cars (sedan, station wagon, hatchback), debuted in 2020. First, the SUV appeared in Southeast Asia, and then it became a truly global model: today the five-door is sold in almost all regions of the brand’s presence. The crossover was also presented in Toyota’s native Japan, where the Corolla Cross has its own exterior design (however, later a hybrid with a similar appearance reached the States, plus in China there is a Toyota Frontlander with a similar appearance). So now the Japanese version has been modernized.

The main thing is that in the Land of the Rising Sun the SUV was replaced with technology. The “traditional” Corolla Cross switched from the naturally aspirated 2ZR-FAE 1.8 petrol engine (140 hp, 170 Nm) to the naturally aspirated M20A-FKS 2.0 engine, which produces 170 hp. and 202 Nm (the crossover in the USA has a two-liter engine, for example). This crossover still has a Direct Shift CVT and only front-wheel drive.

The HEV hybrid (without the possibility of charging from the mains) retains the naturally aspirated 2ZR-FXE 1.8 engine (98 hp, 142 Nm), but the electric motors are new. The main electric motor now produces 95 hp. and 185 Nm (on the pre-reform hybrid – 72 hp and 163 Nm), and in all-wheel drive versions of the E-Four, an electric motor with an output of 41 hp is now installed on the rear axle. and 84 Nm — as in Europe (previously, the hybrid model in Japan had a modest engine with 7.2 hp and 55 Nm). In addition, the hybrid received a more powerful battery.

There are other new things. The list of equipment of rich configurations of the Toyota Corolla Cross was supplemented by a 12.3-inch diagonal virtual instrument panel and a multimedia system with a 10.5-inch tablet (an 8-inch display in the base). By the way, such screens were originally intended for European cross-country racing. In Japan, the Toyota Safety Sense security complex has also been improved: in particular, it has been supplemented with the function of detecting oncoming vehicles and pedestrians at intersections. Finally, the palette of body colors has been expanded (the hybrid can also be two-tone). At the same time, the purely gasoline cross lost the “intermediate” S configuration (the hybrid model retained it).
For a Toyota Corolla Cross with new technology they are asking 2,184,000 — 3,459,000 yen, which is equivalent to about 1,419,000 – 2,247,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.
