The only sedan of the electric vehicle sub-brand Aion from GAC has been transformed outside and inside, received more rich equipment and has risen in price.
In 2018, the Chinese state automaker GAC launched the electric vehicle sub-brand Aion, and the Aion S sedan, located at the junction of classes C and D, became its debut model; later, several crossovers were added to the Aion range. The Aion sub-brand has proven to be very successful: in the first three quarters of this year, its sales in China, according to CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers), amounted to 359,487 electric vehicles (+97.2% compared to last year). Specifically, the Aion S sedan sold 182,230 units over the same period. (+153.1%).

Last year, Aion launched a premium wing with the Hyper prefix, which this year turned into a separate brand, with a new emblem in the form of a checkmark on top of a diamond. Aion continues to exist as a sub-brand and uses the parent emblem of GAC — we see it on the front of the Aion S Max sedan presented yesterday.
The Aion S Max should eventually replace the Aion S Plus, which debuted in 2021 and is the first restyled version of the original Aion S sedan. So far, all three versions — Aion S, Aion S Plus and Aion S Max — are sold in parallel, this is a common practice for Chinese automakers.
Aion S Max
The Aion S Max is slightly larger than its predecessors in length and wheelbase: the overall length of the new version of the sedan is 4863 mm, width is 1890 mm, height is 1515 mm, wheelbase is 2760 mm. The front suspension is McPherson type, the rear is semi-independent, with a transverse torsion beam. The only electric motor is located at the front and rotates the front wheels; in the Aion S Max its peak power is 150 kW (204 hp) or 180 kW (245 hp). The battery capacity is 59.5 or 67.9 kWh, the range on one charge is 510 and 610 km according to the CLTC cycle, respectively. With a 150-kilowatt engine, the Aion S Max accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with a 180-kilowatt engine in 6.7 seconds, the maximum speed in both cases is limited to 160 km/h.

Exterior features of the Aion S Max include new double-decker headlights, a smaller ventilation slot in the front bumper, more sculpted sidewalls with custom stampings above the wheel arches, a more rounded rear bumper than the Aion S Plus and new, thinner and sleeker taillights. Standard wheels are 17- or 18-inch.

The interior of the Aion S Max is almost completely new; only the steering wheel remains from the Aion S Plus. The instrument screen (10.25 inches) and multimedia screen (14.6 inches) are now completely separate, the center console is completely cleared of buttons and accommodates two slots with wireless charging for smartphones, the transmission mode selector has moved from the center console to the steering column, noticeably improved finishing materials. Standard equipment includes four airbags, dual-zone climate control, a powerful nine-speaker audio system, all-round cameras and a panoramic transparent roof.

M minimum price of Aion S Max in In China, excluding subsidies and discounts, it costs 149,900 yuan (1.92 million rubles at current exchange rates), while Aion S Plus can still be purchased at a price starting from 139,800 yuan (1.79 million rubles).
