The Kaliningrad Avtotor plant announced the start of industrial assembly of the BAIC X7 crossover. And this is already the fifth model of the Chinese concern that has received Russian “registration”: previously the company mastered the production of BAIC U5 Plus sedans, BAIC BJ40 frame SUVs, BAIC X35 and BAIC X55 SUVs. As reported in the Avtotor press service, preparations for the start of production of the X-Seventh began in June; it included personnel training, implementation and testing of software for equipment that is used in operations to install and test the operation of the vehicle’s electronic systems. Special equipment was also manufactured, and individual posts on the conveyor line were also retrofitted.

Let us recall that in China, the Beijing X7 model (the Beijing brand is used mainly in the domestic market) debuted in 2020; it is considered the flagship of the company’s “passenger SUV” line (that is, excluding the BJ series). In the spring of this year, a restyled crossover launched in its homeland – with a frameless radiator grille, different optics and a modernized interior. But we have now set up the assembly of the pre-reform cross country. However, such an SUV is still in service in China.

The length of the pre-restyling BAIC X7 is 4710 mm, width – 1892 mm, height – 1715 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm. Thus, in terms of dimensions, the cross is comparable to the previous generation Hyundai Santa Fe, which, by the way, was made by Avtotor for the Russian Federation before the well-known events began.

It is stated that the X7 will be offered on the Russian market with a 1.5 petrol turbo-four, which produces 180 hp. and 270 Nm (in China – 188 hp and 275 Nm), the engine is paired with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Front-wheel drive only. In the Middle Kingdom, the Beijing X7 also comes in the form of a rechargeable hybrid, but such a version has not been announced for the Russian Federation.

The equipment list of our BAIC X7 has not yet been disclosed. In the PRC, the model is equipped with 18- or 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a combined virtual instrument panel and touchscreen multimedia system, dual-zone climate control with a separate touch control panel, heated and ventilated front seats, and an electric tailgate.

Avtotor did not announce the exact start date for sales of the X-Seventh. As for prices, most likely, in the Russian BAIC line, the new cross will be located between the X55 SUV (from 2,950,000 rubles) and the BJ40 frame SUV (from 4,350,000 rubles).
