The ID.7 electric car will have a new modification. The “barn” will enter the European market next year.
The Volkswagen brand has decided to turn the ID.7 “electric” into a separate family: a station wagon will accompany the already presented liftback. Moreover, contrary to established tradition, the Germans assigned the “barn” the prefix Tourer, and not Variant. By the way, Volkswagen hinted at the appearance of an electric station wagon in its range back in 2019, presenting the ID concept. Space Vision.
At the moment, the VW ID.7 Tourer has only been revealed as a pre-production camouflaged prototype, and the brand has only released a couple of brand photos. However, there are enough of them to understand that the station wagon will differ from the liftback only in the body.

Let us remind you, like the rest of the current ID models, the “seven” is built on the MEB platform. The dimensions of the station wagon have not yet been revealed. The length of the European liftback is 4961 mm, width – 1862 mm, height – 1538 mm, wheelbase – 2966 mm. At the same time, Volkswagen named the trunk volume of the ID.7 Tourer, and it is only slightly larger than that of the liftback: 545 liters versus 532 liters. But if you fold the backs of the rear seats, then for the “barn” this figure will increase to 1714 liters (for the liftback – 1586 liters). Well, the brand also boasted that the station wagon has an aerodynamic drag coefficient Cd of 0.24 versus 0.23 for the liftback.

For comparison, here are the dimensions of the new VW Passat Variant ICE (Passat now comes exclusively as a station wagon): length – 4917 mm, distance between axles – 2841 mm, cargo compartment volume – 690/1920 liters, Cd coefficient – 0.25.
Obviously, the VW ID.7 Tourer will be offered with the same technology as the liftback. The latter in Europe now has an electric motor with a capacity of 286 hp. (installed on the rear axle) and a battery with a capacity of 77 kWh, the power reserve is about 621 km according to the WLTP cycle. Later the range will be expanded (in particular, a liftback with a more powerful battery will go on sale, plus an all-wheel drive version is being prepared).
