ST. PETERSBURG, June 7Specialists to work in the field of biogenetic technologies must be “grown” from school, says Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Lomonosov Moscow State University, leading researcher at the National Medical Research Center for Endocrinology of the Russian Ministry of Health, member of the Presidium of the Russian Association for the Promotion of Science Maria Vorontsova.
“The first point that we need to develop is human resources. We need to start right from school, get children interested in the biology of the 21st century, the biology of today and tomorrow,” Vorontsova told reporters following the session “Bioeconomics: Innovation and Bioproduction” of the St. Petersburg International economic forum. The session touched upon the development of biogenetic research in Russia.
Developments in the field of biogenetics can become a significant sector in the Russian healthcare market, Vorontsova added.
“I believe that we have good personnel, good brains, good hands and very creative people. And we definitely need to help them with this,” she emphasized.
According to her, we are also talking about standardization in the practical implementation of new developments. The expert also noted the importance of intersectoral cooperation.
«Bioeconomics and biotechnology cannot belong to just one industry. This is cooperation, interaction between almost all sectors of our economy today,» Vorontsova said.
