Elon Musk warned that he may ban the use of Apple devices in his companies due to the tech giant's deal to integrate ChatGPT into iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Tesla executive called this decision “an unacceptable security breach” and accused Apple of transferring user data to OpenAI, the company that created the chatbot.

As part of Monday's generative AI announcement, Apple said that along with its new Apple Intelligence system, which will allow users to access generative AI tools virtually anywhere on their devices, it will give users the ability to submit a request to ChatGPT to take advantage of its own spectrum of knowledge.

In his article on X, Musk said: “If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned from my companies. This is an unacceptable security breach.

“And visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be kept in a Faraday cage.”

In a subsequent post, he added:

It is completely absurd that Apple is not smart enough to create its own AI, but is somehow able to guarantee that OpenAI will protect your security and privacy!

Apple has no idea what actually happens when they feed your data to OpenAI. They're selling you down the river.

The billionaire's comments come amid a wider spat with Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO. Mr Musk initially provided financial backing for the start-up before the acrimonious split.

Tesla and SpaceX executives sued OpenAI earlier this year, accusing the company of straying from its original mission as a nonprofit focused on developing safe artificial intelligence technologies. OpenAI called the lawsuit “frivolous.”

In response to Musk's statements, Apple was contacted for comment.

The technology giant announced a slew of new artificial intelligence features for its iOS operating system. system on Monday, seeking to demonstrate that it has a solution that can compete with Google's artificial intelligence tools.

At the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, said new artificial intelligence products, which he called “Apple Intelligence,” were the “next big thing” for the tech giant.

We're excited to introduce new chapter in Apple innovation. Apple Intelligence will change what users can do with our products,” said Mr. Cook.

Apple is also grappling with slowing iPhone sales, recording a 10.5% drop in smartphone revenue in the first three months of the year.

Google, meanwhile, has launched its own artificial intelligence tools. via the Gemini chatbot, which has been added to the rival Android smartphone operating system.

Siri, Apple's digital voice assistant, will be able to control more functions from within apps for the first time, and Apple will give users the option to add OpenAI ChatGPT technology to its 13-year-old voice assistant to answer more complex queries for free.

The company's iPhone, Macbook and iPad will offer users a range of AI-powered tools that can generate text, including entire blog posts, and send “smart replies” via email that can quickly respond to incoming message requests. .

The new iOS 18 smartphone software will feature AI technology that can generate custom emojis or create synthetic artwork.

In addition to its artificial intelligence announcements, Apple said it is aiming to end mobile “non-Spots” by giving iPhone users the ability to send text messages via satellite even if they don't have a phone signal.

The tech giant announced Monday that iPhone users will soon be able to send iMessages and standard text messages. messages by transmitting signals to passing satellites, challenging billionaire Musk's Starlink, which is developing a rival system.

Apple first launched the ability to send “Emergency SOS” text messages via satellite in 2022, and it's currently available in UK, but the offering was limited to first responder alerts aimed at adventurers in trouble.

A new version of the technology will allow iPhone users to send daily messages via satellite, potentially overcoming mobile blackspots. worldwide. The service will initially launch in the US later this year.
