Alina Zagitova has long demonstrated her independence from the opinions of others. During the day she says serious things at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, and in the evening she hangs out at the cocktail counter at the SPIEF 2024 party. Sports is about a new version of the Olympic champion.
Toys used to be her joy
Alina Zagitova is living her best life, it seems. These June days, she spends her time at SPIEF, giving comments, showing off new outfits and rocking the after-party. She just turned 22 years old. She is dazzlingly beautiful, in demand and rich. “Yesterday was an evening of happiness,” the Olympic champion posted on her social networks, backing up her verbal impressions with photographs and videos from the concert. At SPIEF-2024 on June 6, Instasamka and Basta performed, and Alina sang along with them and danced near the bar with aperols.
At the forum, she was officially announced as an ambassador of the BRICS 2024 Games, which was reported a day earlier. Inviting her to the stage, they introduced her as a figure skater and a great friend of Tatarstan. It is logical, given Zagitova’s roots, and the fact that the capital of the Games is Kazan. And this mission is just one of all her roles and works.
Alina really looks very happy. In general, we saw her in this state many times, including during her sports career – when she won the Russian, European, Olympics and World Championships. When the ice was buried in toys after her performance, Alina also seemed happy. But this was a different kind of happiness, mixed with gratitude and relief. There are always particles of blood, sweat and tears in a gold medal. There is always a debt, repaid with interest – to parents, grandmothers, coaches and your childhood. This is an amazing combination of selfish joy and altruistic generosity, in which there is still more generosity.
Her departure is like the death of Juliet
When Alina announced the suspension of her career in the winter of 2019, her fans shed many tears that she was unlikely to return, which means she would never realize her full potential as a figure skater. It will not show new choreography, a fundamentally different degree of immersion in the image, or set new trends in costumes for young athletes. Her departure was perceived dramatically, like the death of Juliet – a girl who had just found her true love forever ceases to exist in her usual incarnation. And this was, perhaps, Zagitova’s first selfish decision: neither thousands of fans, nor the coach’s desire to keep an adult athlete in the group, nor the public expectation “prove that you are not a fly-by-night” could keep her in the sport.
As time has shown, Zagitova left the sport on time, like no one else. She immediately began to make new connections, received a maximum of advertising contracts, and began to try herself in all areas previously inaccessible to her. She, unlike all her friends on the national team, was not affected by the coronavirus pandemic in any way, because she entered it as a no longer active athlete. That’s why Alina solved issues of motivation, health, and changes in her figure due to long periods of inactivity without training without strain, at her own pace. And she quickly stopped trying to prove anything to anyone.
During all this secular time, Zagitova many times became a target for ridicule for all her attempts and mistakes. The trick is that it is impossible to win in this Olympics of publicity – you will always be either too silent or say stupid things; either dressed boringly or vulgarly. There is no way to live as a public person in order to please everyone. And Alina at some point stopped trying.
Will she walk around half naked and sing “for money – yes”?
Remember, last year Zagitova once came to the VK Award in a translucent jumpsuit with slits? The scandalous singer Instasamka also appeared in the same overalls. Everyone then decided that this was the beginning of the end for Alina – they say, now she will completely slide and follow the path of a freak. She will always walk around half naked and sing songs like “for money – yes.” But no, Zagitova remains herself and leads the most varied life. Here she is in a bikini on a yacht in Dubai, here she is in a strict business suit at a serious event. Here he makes funny tik-toks with his sister, and here he stars in fashion magazines. Sometimes she looks like an instadiva, sometimes like a girl in sweatpants and with a bun on her head, signing autographs to a crowd of children who suddenly overtook her.
