Duster's older brother: the seven-seater Bigster crossover was driven on camera

A camouflaged prototype of the future new Dacia was caught by spy photographers during road tests in southern Europe.

The Romanian brand Dacia is part of the Renault Group portfolio. The brand is doing quite well on the old-world market: we previously reported that at the end of last year, Dacia dealers sold 562,890 cars in Europe, which corresponds to an increase of 17.4% (while the market as a whole grew by 13. 9%). Now the brand continues to develop another promising new product – the older brother of the current Duster.

The presentation of the large seven-seat C-segment crossover, which will be called Bigster, is scheduled to take place closer to the end of this year. Let us remind you that the manufacturer showed the concept of the same name back at the beginning of 2021: its design was made in accordance with the current corporate style of the Romanian brand: we are talking, in particular, about head optics with a light pattern in the form of inverted “games”, strokes and a current one located in the center brand logo.

Now the Dacia Bigster prototype has been captured by spy photographers: the car was caught during road tests conducted in southern Europe. Colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es shared with us some pictures of the future new product. For now, the test car is carefully “hidden”: the exterior details cannot be seen due to the camouflage film.

< p>However, despite the camouflage, you can see that the Bigster will have proprietary head optics, probably designed in a similar way to the current Dacia Duster crossover. The new product will most likely have a similar large air intake with foglights on the sides. The prototype has traditional exterior mirrors, widened wheel arches, and roof rails. Like the Duster, the front door handles are normal, while the rear door handles are built into the glass frame. The stern was equipped with a spoiler on the top of the fifth door, the lights were probably also moved from the current “Romanian” Duster.

Photo spies have not yet been able to see the interior. It can be assumed that the design of the front panel and center console will be the same as that of the Duster (remember, the top versions received a 7-inch virtual instrument panel and an infotainment system with a 10.1-inch diagonal touchscreen). The seating formula of the seven-seater Dacia Bigster is 2+3+2, its length will be about 4.6 meters, while the current Duster is 4343 mm.

According to preliminary data, the new product will also get its technology from its “younger brother.” Let us remind you that in Europe the Duster is offered in three modifications. The TCe 130 version has a mild-hybrid unit, which is based on a 1.2-liter petrol turbo engine (130 hp), working in tandem with a 48-volt starter-generator. Another version – Duster Eco-G 100 – received a bi-fuel three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbo engine (gasoline and propane; 100 hp). The top-end version of the Hybrid 140 was equipped with a hybrid installation, like that of the Dacia Jogger station wagon: it is based on a 1.6-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine (94 hp), complete with a 49-horsepower electric motor, a starter-generator and a battery with a capacity of 1. 2 kWh. The total output of this system is 140 hp.

Sales of the seven-seat Dacia Bigster crossover on the European market will begin in 2025. Prices for the new model will be announced later, but expect it to be more expensive than the current Dacia Duster. In one of the largest old-world markets, in Germany, a Duster can be bought for a minimum of 18,950 euros (equivalent to approximately 1.82 million rubles at the current exchange rate).
