'Completely frivolous' labor manifest contains cost estimates for only one year

Sir Keir has repeatedly defended Labour's policies, insisting that all manifesto provisions will be fully taken into account. Posted by Holly Adams/Bloomberg

The Labor Party has been criticized for only setting out the costs of its policies for one year, despite Sir Keir Starmer repeatedly insisting that all his plans will be “fully valued”.

In the manifesto Only a breakdown of income is provided for the party. they will also raise the amount of money they will spend in 2028-2029, which should be the last year of her first term.

Conservative officials said there were no detailed figures for the first four years of Labour's government. in power revealed his plan for the country was “totally unserious”.

Labour defended the decision to provide only one year of data, saying it had chosen the point at which spending was necessary for its policies , will be maximum.

The manifesto states: “We used last year the most recent Office for Budget Responsibility forecast (2028-29), which represents the highest annual cost of the policy.”

But the approach is different from that of the Tories, who on Tuesday published a manifesto outlining costs for each of the next five years.

A Conservative party source told The Telegraph: “Labour has not made plans for taxes and spending for the next five years, presenting only one year – and that's four years from now.”

“Their manifesto says nothing about the next one.” three years. This is completely frivolous.”

The row came after Sir Keir repeatedly defended Labour's policies (and its refusal to deliver on government promises) by insisting that everything in the manifesto would be fully valued.

He used the phrase to repeatedly fend off questions about whether he planned to raise taxes when he took office to pay for extra spending on public services.

Asked about capital gains tax this week, he told The Guardian: “I'm not going to write five-year budgets three and a half or four weeks before an election.

“But my point is that We are fully costed, fully funded, and none of our plans require tax increases beyond what we have already established.”

The two main parties are locked in a bitter battle over each other's spending plans, with each accusing the other of making up fantastical figures.

Rishi Sunak said Labor's plans would require tax rises of more than £2,000 per household. which the party has not yet distributed to voters.

Labour said the claims were ludicrous and themselves accused the Tories of publishing a series of “free” promises, such as the reintroduction of National Service.

It says the Tories have made unfunded promises worth £71 billion, much of which represents the party's long-term ambitions to abolish national insurance.

Repeated scandals have seen economic competence become a major theme Both leaders are fighting in the election for leadership.

Recent polls, including a YouGov poll last December, show Labor has overtaken the Tories in who voters trust more on the economy.
