PERM, June 12 The reason for the bus leaving the Perm-Berezniki highway before the accident with casualties was the driver's poor health, the regional State Traffic Inspectorate reported.
On Wednesday afternoon, a regular bus with passengers traveling from Berezniki to Perm drove off the highway into a ditch and overturned. The regional Ministry of Health reported 12 casualties, including four hospitalized. According to regional police, three people were injured in the car accident. After the incident, the Investigative Committee began an investigation under Part 1 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet safety requirements).
“At the 164th kilometer of the Perm-Berezniki highway, the driver felt unwell, lost control of the bus and drove into the left ditch in the direction of travel. An inspection is being carried out,” said Alexander Kopytov, acting head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Berezniki District.
A video with a comment from a department employee was published by the press service of the regional traffic police.
The Perm Territory Prosecutor's Office is also looking into the situation. The agency checks whether the carrier provided drivers with the rest required by law and whether the rules for organizing passenger transportation were observed. In addition, the prosecutor's office will draw conclusions about the maintenance and improvement of the section of the road along which the bus was traveling.
