Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic left the club with immediate effect just two weeks after leading the team to the Champions League final.
The 41-year-old asked Dortmund to terminate his contract after deciding that he needed to continue his career. elsewhere.

Terzic's departure comes amid reports in Germany of an angry confrontation with defender Mats Hummels, who was highly critical of his tactics, which are said to have turned violent just days before the Wembley final against Real Madrid.“I was furious because I was of the opinion that Borussia Dortmund shouldn't play like that – against any opponent in the world,” Hummels said earlier this season about how Terzic approached games against big teams. “I didn’t think this could continue. Although there was clearly tension between Terzic and Hummels, which no one denies, it is not believed that the rift was a significant factor in the manager's decision to leave the club.

There was also the question of whether Terzic had much power at Dortmund, especially when it came to buying and selling players. It was also claimed that Terzic was too emotionally attached to Dortmund and needed to go elsewhere.
It is possible that Terzic, who was close to being sacked before the winter holidays in Germany, and Dortmund would have parted ways anyway had they not reached the Champions League final.
In a club statement, Dortmund said: “ Borussia Dortmund and Edin Terzic have parted ways. The 41-year-old player asked BVB to immediately terminate his contract. Borussia Dortmund agreed to this request after a joint discussion.”
Terzic later said: “Dear Borussians, although I am in great pain right now, I want to inform you that as of today I am leaving BVB. It was a huge honor for me to lead this great club to victory in the German Cup and, more recently, to the Champions League final.
“After our final at Wembley, I asked the management for a conversation, because after ten years BVB, including five years in the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I believe that the upcoming relaunch should be led by a new person.”
Terzic replaced Marco Rose in 2022 and received a three-year contract calculated until the end of the next season.
